“A nice, clean, reasonably priced hotel”
Reviewed October 17, 2012

We arrived in the middle of the night for a quick business trip. The hotel front desk clerk was very friendly (for 4 AM), plus they had a bellman to show us to our rooms. The room was actually 2 rooms with a living area, a nice sized bath and a small bedroom with a king sized bed. Every thing was clean. It took a minute to cool the room down, but this was accomplished. It is an older hotel as far as a/c - but I would stay here again on another business trip.

The hotel has just had a revamp, the service is top notch, just what you would expect from a 5 star hotel, my room although not facing the sea was very good, as good as location as you will get in Rio

It is an old hotel. The beds and linens could be a lot better. Ar conditioning too noisy.
Missing car for the bags and parking lot. The closer is expensive.
The good thing is that you can walk to Ipanema and it's bars and restaurants.

Got a high floor room though the noise from the road did make into the room. For the price the room was basic, I was paying for the view and yes it was amazing. The position of the hotel is good. The food was not so good and expensive, go to all the restaurants around the hotel you will eat better and cheaper. Tried the SPA as well give that a skip expensive and not good.

Just returned from a 3 night stay at the Copacabana Rio Hotel. The hotel is located one block off of Copacabana beach on a busy street. From the moment you walk into the hotel you know that it is run down and in need of renovation. Our room was located on the 2nd floor facing the street which meant lots of noise - on the weekend until 4 a.m. It felt more like a college dorm room than a hotel. The furnishings are outdated, the bathroom was small, the shower drain was at the same level as the tile therefore it did not drain properly.

Breakfast was included in our room price - which was high for what you got ($235 per night) - decent buffet - but located in a dingy room. Really nothing to write about.

The only decent thing about the hotel is their roof pool which has a lovely view of the ocean and city.

As far as the staff - not very friendly!

My suggestion would be to stay in Ipanema - a bit classier of an area.

Room Tip: Pick a room on higher floors

In the united states for the same price you can get a much nicer hotel but hotel prices in Rio are very expensive so far the money based on Rio prices you get what you pay for. Downsides: The staff always left room service trays in the stairs hallway when guests were done with them for up to one day. Saw two roaches in my three days there and I was there just to sleep and use the pool. You can only get 1 room key and it has your room number on the key so don't lose it because it will cost you a lot to replace it. You need to pay to use the in room safe. The key must be inserted into the wall slot once inside to power the electric I had never encountered something like this before. Next time I go to Rio I will search at least 6 months ahead for a hotel deal if I can not find a better deal I would stay here again.
Upsides: First things first... Location...1.5 blocks to the beach a total of a 5 minute walk, 2 minutes into the walk you can see Copacabana. Front desk staff knew enough English to always help two non Portuguese speaking guests. The staff was very friendly (bartenders, waiters, and bell boys do no know any English)
They have a lot of information and tours offered from the hotel. There is almost always one hotel staff member if not two waiting at the door and will open it for you night or day. It seemed very safe. The hotel pool while small was very nice, quiet, and clean. There is a bar on the first floor and right next to the pool (not a swim up bar).

Room Tip: The first floor you can stay on actually starts on the third floor.

This is a good hotel. Yes, it is old, and so are more than half of the hotels in Rio de Janeiro. The rate? Heck, everything in Rio is expensive? Tell me, what hotel in Rua Sousa de Lima goes below R$ 400? Right?! Besides, why would anyone wants to spend so much time in hotel in Rio?!? The max time one would probably spend is 5-6 hrs of sleep, shower and breakfast. The rest would be Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon and Brazilian Girls...come one..Copacabana Rio Hotel is a hotel that is 3 min walk to the beach...good restaurants around and believe us...great, great, great staff.!

Room Tip: The staff are great, honest and very helpful...ask for room on a higher floor..
