“Unremarkable hotel but good location”
Reviewed October 16, 2013

Unremarkable hotel but brilliantly located for exploring the city. It's on the Copacabana beach end but very close to the metro and within walking distance of Ipanema beach. Ask for a room on the pool side as that should be quieter than the street side.

This is a nice hotel, located very close to Copacabana beach. The room is quite spacious and offers kitchen facilities. However there are very few utensils and charged 15 Reals for one broken glass. The free wifi was great and the staff were very friendly. Not the best value for money, but I guess that is Rio hotel accommodation.

I stayed here late July. I had a double room single occupancy and it was fine. The facility of the kitchenette, which allows them to call their rooms "apartments" is exaggerated as the cooker does not work... No gas. But the rooms are spacious, if dark because of the curtains.

The staff are very willing and friendly and attentive. A big plus. And always around. The breakfast is very good with lots of choice.

The leisure facilities, at least this time of the year, are a disaster. Although front desk seemed to think they were fully operative, most days nothing was working: sauna, jacuzzi, pool. It is Winter, but nonetheless one would expect at least the indoor facilities to work.

For the money you pay you would at least expect satisfactory wifi but it only worked in patches and only then in a particular place in the room. I complained, and they gave me a form to fill in. I wrote on it that they should read tripadvisor, as others have complained here about this in the past. As an overseas guest, I would not advise use of the hotel by anyone who needs reliable Internet access. This needs fixing, urgently.

The location is a big plus, and the streets seem safe and there are many nice bars etc around, as well as the beach.

It's a nice hotel at a nice location at Copacabana. Close to the beach and the subway.
The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. They also have free wifi.
I could have given this hotel 5 points instead of 3 if the housekeeping had not been so weird.
When I got back to my room in the afternoon of the second day the door to the balcony and all windows were wide open. I went to the reception to ask why this was and that I did not like it since my suitcase and all my stuff was in my room. It's not like I was far away on the Italian countryside.. but in the middle of a huge city in not the most fancy part of Rio the Janeiro. So I asked if it was possible that the housekeeper would keep all doors and windows shut. The guy at the reception acted like he understood and actually made note if it... but the next day the same thing had happened.
Luckily nothing was stolen.. but people could climb from one balcony to another and take away your belongings.

So dispite the nice rooms and good location I will not come back and can not recommend it.

I stayed here for 1 week in April. I am in Rio frequently and am always on the look out for an apt hotel. I usually stay at the Mercure in Leblon, which ticks all the boxes for basic needs but can at times be silly expensive and is often full. As a result of the reviews on Trip Advisor I decided to give the Promenade Princess a try.
First thing to realize this isn't staffed like a hotel.
When my wife and I arrived on a Sunday night there was one lone guy sitting behind the desk.
The upside of this was check in was quick.
The downside was as soon as things began to go wrong there was no one there to fix it.
First problem:
Two small beds.
My wife wasn't impressed but given they were full there was nothing to be done and we just pushed them together.
Second problem:
The internet was anemic.
Third problem ( and this was a killer) as we settled into bed we realized there were grains of sand in the sheets!.
The hotel is two blocks from the beach, so clearly earlier guests hadn't bothered to shower before retiring...worse ...the hotel hadn't bothered to change the sheets between guests!
THAT is unforgivable for a hotel.
As I said it was 7 pm on a Sunday and there was no one to fix the problem.
Third problem: The air conditioner was the loudest I have ever encountered in a hotel. So much so that we had to turn it off to sleep.
After a rather uncomfortable night without sheets we talked to a now staffed front desk to try and get things put right.
No apologies.
Shrug of the shoulders and told us they would fix things while we were out.
Upon return we saw that in fact there were new sheets but just the same two beds with a bed sheet stretched across them.
We would have cut and run then and there but were in town due to a family illness and between trips to the hospital ( and the fact the hotel was prepaid) there was very little bandwidth to chase down somewhere else.
The hotel is fairly new and renovated and first appearances are positive. Each room has a decent little kitchenette complete with coffee maker...but devoid of any pots or pans.
Whats the point of a stove if there is nothing to cook with???
Repeated requests to supply basics ( 1 pan) were met with blank stares.
The shower was decent and hot water plentiful.
After the initial dirty sheets the room was cleaned without mishap every day.
The TV broke mid week but was fixed withing 24 hours.
It was cheap but ultimately you get what you pay for.
Copacabana as an area is pretty grubby and the beach cant really compare to Ipanema, so I really should have spent a bit more time looking around.
I guess the rate of $225 night swayed me.
In summary:
Negatives
Two singles made into a double with a common beds heet.
Poor staffing levels and service on the weekends
Dirty sheets on check in!
Really poor wireless (sometimes nonexistent)
Nothing to use ( pot & pan wise) in the kitchen
Loud aircon
Dull listless area
"Dont want to know staff" ( on the Monday morning)
Positives
Nicely renovated
Spacious balcony ( no view though)
Good cleaning service during the week
Decent responsiveness during the week
Coffee machine! ( and it worked well!)
Decent lobby security ( essential for Rio)

I had high hopes for this place and all of the elements for a positive experience were there but for the execution.
Back to the Mercure next time I suppose........

Room Tip: I think they are all the same. We stayed on the 11th floor ( which was the top floor) but there was...

We booked two rooms here and found our stay to be very enjoyable. The location of the hotel is great being only two blocks from Copacabana beach and there are great shopping and eating places nearby. The room was clean and modern and the wifi worked very well in the apartment, there were a few odd things about the apartment, the sliding doors that split the bedroom from the main room don't cover the whole entrance, so if one person is sleeping it is difficult for the other to watch TV without disturbing them. The toilet seat did not stay up, and while there was a stove we were not supplied with anything that we could cook something in.

On the whole we found this place to be very comfortable and while it wasn't cheap by Rio standards it seemed value for money.

Room Tip: A room not facing onto the main street will enable a good nights sleep.

The location of this hotel is the best, this is two blocks from the beach, the wifi was free, and the metro was very close to the hotel. The staff was good but not all of them speak English, Was perfect weather in the days we stayed there, the sun shone all the time while in our country it was very cold. I do recommend this place, but travelers have to make sure to speak some Portuguese.
