Augusto's Copacabana Hotel
Ranked #68 of 283 Hotels in Rio de Janeiro
Reviewed June 5, 2013 via mobile

Hotel is conveniently located in Copacabana but rooms are very old and need urgent renovation. Staff is helpful. Surrounding area looks a bit grim and unsafe at night. No free wifi. Breakfast is very basic and usually over an hour before the announced time

Thank Santa C

Excellent location, near to subway, restaurants and beach. Compared to other hotels room and breakfast to my opinion is below normal. Probably a reformation would be good. Front desk is ok. My room telephone still waiting someone to fix it.

Pros:
- Excellent location 4 blocks from beach front - Reception staff all spoke reasonably good English and were very helpful (particularly since we had lost luggage to deal with and they assisted with calling up the airline & airport in Portuguese) - Rooms were of quite a good standard and clean but hotel probably could do with a refurb. I stayed here 10 years ago as well and it has not changed much.

Cons:
- Breakfast was dire. Awful looking scrambled eggs, some tired fruit, stale cereal. By the end of our stay we did not bother getting up early to make breakfast and rather waited to go and get lunch outside. This is a shame for a reasonably good hotel and would probably not require too much money or effort to change.

We actually stayed in Feb. of 2012 during carnaval...the location is awesome, you are right next to all the fun! The beach is less than 5 minutes away! During carnaval starting at 11:00 a.m. there is a Bolivar block party where people dance to their street's band while having drinks. The block parties are all 5 days of the carnaval and usually end around 11:00 p.m. The area felt safe; however, the streets are pretty dirty from litter. That was my only complaint about the area, if I had to find one. The people of Rio are laid back and serene. Never saw any fights...even with all the people, everyone got along!
The hotel room was pretty simple....clean but not very luxurious! Thankfully we basically used it only to sleep since we were barely in our room. There is a great deck on the hotel roof, with awesome views of the area.
The day we left we gave the front clerks money to mail out postcards for us; however, the postcards were never mailed out which was very disappointing!
Other than that they were friendly at the front desk, but don't trust them to mail out your postcards!
Overall we would stay there again because of it's awesome location! I love Rio and its people! Can't wait to return!

The front desk were normally very helpful the rooms were clean the bathroom was clean our maid used to fold all our clothing for us if we left it in a mess, she would tidy everything up. You could leave loose change and it wouldnt go missing. The breakfast was okay if you just wanted something. Light. It was a great location with a few little drinking kinda shops next door. 5mins from the beach. Stayed here for two weeks. The only downside was they were strict on bringing girls back. Lol.

The majority of the front desk staff was pleasant but not all. Linen needs upgrading. Bartender and breakfast staff were nice. Mattress was comfortable. Ample hot water in bathroom. I stayed on at least two occasions.

Room Tip: Top floor front facing gives you a side view down to the ocean.

This restaurant is in a solid location. Obviously, there's much to do in Rio and this puts you relatively close to the beach. The staff is nice and helpful. The walls, however, are paper thin in the rooms. Expect to hear the television from the room next door. You may also catch a whiff of cigarette smoke. The on-site restaurant is great. The room service, on the other hand, leaves ALOT to be desired. In addition, there is a daily charge for both in the in-room security safe and internet.
