We think that we must have eaten at a different restaurant than some of the earlier reviewers. We were staying nearby and looked around during the afternoon for somewhere to eat that evening. Rustica looked good, so we booked a table. It was the liveliest place in Santa Teresa, and it was easy to see why. The staff were cheerful and helpful, some spoke good English, those who didn't apologised (although they might have expected us to speak their language). We had two excellent pizzas and shared a salad. Our only surprise was that wine was not available by the glass (to let us take time choosing a bottle). The charming 24 year old manager, who had kept a firm grip on proceedings, then spent some time talking to us. We thought the whole place delightful and excellent value and thoroughly recommend it.

We ate here twice on our latest trip to Rio. It's located in a livly street of Santa Teresa and has been renovated to produce a very nice atmosphere on a raised rooftop terrace. Service was pleasant and most staff spoke English. Menu is fairly varied and although not cheap it isn't unreasonable either. Food quality was quite good but don't expect anything brilliant. A nice informal dining experience.

The place looks amazing and is extremely cozy.

The food was good and they have vegetarian options including vegan moqueca.

The staff put up with us when we wanted to split the bill per couple. And we kinda made it a bit complicated.

Great for a night out with friends!

We were going for a nice walk through Santa Teresa when the architecture and charm of the structure and surroundings brought us in and up to Rustica and that's pretty much where everything came to a screeching halt.

We should have already left when we were informed that their primary focus dish which resembled more of a white bean feijoada didn't have the appropriate farofa accompaniment. We went with this and asked if they could provide bread at no additional charge in lieu of their missing farofa...I was told this was impossible because it was different and additionally it wasn't their fault because their farofa didn't meet the chef's standards hence it was pulled.

Ok, let's proceed it must be pretty good we thought. After waiting for some time a server appeared with our plates, utensils, napkins and placed down our almond rice and fried pork rinds and a mysterious covered dish and just walks off. Mind you when any real brazilian establishment serves any kind of dish it's a serious affair and production with how their servers prepare and show off all of its accompaniments and nada, nothing at Rustica, the server could have cared less and rightly so when we removed the cover and a barely warm and not so impressive or attractive white bean dish with vegetables and calabresa.

When we called our server over again to alert him of the situation he was a bit despondent and helped send the dish back to heat it while leaving our plates with what we'd served ourselves getting colder with the rice and pork rinds. Then he said he'd bring bread for our troubles and it never arrived. When we explained further and asked for our plates to be microwaved all of whatever charm and enjoyment existed were left disappointed and depleted.

Upon requesting our check with the main server who continued to hem and haw of how things were usually and he was in charge yet nothing was removed from the check and it never really registered with him that we live in Rio and bring lots of friends, colleagues and tourists to Santa Teresa weekly and are always looking for the next cool places and this won't be on our list...we suggest you skip it too.

The place seems very nice. Seduced by the building and the exterior cafe/terrace, we've decided to step in to the Rustico restaurant (upstairs) and the first impression was "ok". While seated, the caipirinha came and it was good. Ordered a plate based on white beans, sausages and farofa, which was missing and we received a categoric NO when requested for bread (max. 1 or 2 reais) to replace it. Passing this small detail, things have gotten worse and worse, and summarizing:

- Staff not prepared to serve and very badly trained (brought the food before the plates, 1 spoon for 3 different dishes, food was cold, etc)
- They made us feel like we were asking too much because we asked for more attention and even stated that everything was just fine
- Food nothing special, tastes like canned food and the toresmo (pork cracklins) that are supposed to be crispy were old and cold
- They microwave the dishes even when you ask for this in a "sarcastic way", and are not ashamed to bring it back to you all dry
- Promise to do "gestures" and just forget it in 2 minutes (counted)

All of this in only 40minutes.

The caipirinha was ok, but I rather have my caipirinha where I will be better served next time.

If you're looking for a great sunday lunch with no stress, I highly recommend to pick another place.
