We had a very pleasant stay in this charming B&B in Botafogo. It is located in a very nice, green area, fairly close to Botafogo and the most tourist attractions of Rio.

We highly recommend to stay with Richard and Rob in their very nice home.

My wife and I stayed 5 nights at the O veleiro B&B. The owners Rob & Richard were the perfect hosts. Their advice on where and when to visit places, and what to wear ensured that we were able to visit the beautiful city of Rio safely. The B&B is an absolute haven of peace and tranquility set in a wonderful tropical garden. Every morning, we were graced with the visit from the local troup of marmosets expecting breakfast in exchange for a show. We cannot recommend B&B strongly enough. Dominic & Martha

O Veleiro is a lovely little B&B located in the safe residential neighborhood of Botafogo, convenient for metro & restaurants/bars. The house is beautifully decorated with lots of handy leaflets & books to offer inspiration for what to see & do in Rio, plus the ever-helpful hosts who were always on hand whenever we had any questions. The garden is truly beautiful, including a plunge pool, honesty bar and views towards the coast and in the other direction on to Christ The Redeemer. Safety is ensured by a modern entry system and keycards are provided if you are planning to be arriving late after a night out.

We checked in to O Veleiro after a harrowing experience at a B&B in Tavares Bastos favela, and would strongly recommend avoiding the same experience and checking straight in here! Affordable, comfortable & friendly, we will definitely be back to stay here and will recommend it to friends & family visiting Rio.

If you are going to be in Rio for more than 2 or 3 days than I highly recommend staying at the Veleiro. It has a great home atmosphere that is very inviting on days when you might want to take a break from sight-seeing or if the weather is not so great. Communal breakfasts were a great place to meet people and enjoy conversation. The pousada itself is not located in the heart of anything touristy, but that is part of its charm. In 15 minutes you can walk into the center of Botafogo and travel by metro to Copacobana and Ipanema beaches. You can also take the metro to Cinelandia and then walk about 5 minutes to get to Lapa (a cab ride from the Veleiro is about R$15-20. Urca and the tram for Sugarloaf mountain are also in walking distance.

We stayed a week in one of the budget room, and were very comfortable.
Great hosts- Rob and Richard were helpful, knowledgable and great to chat with.
Breakfast delicious with home made jams, juices and cakes.
The room was clean, and our bed was made and towels changed daily. Shower was in the room and WC located just outside. If hot water in the shower cuts off (happened just once), tell Rob and he'll flip the circuit breaker and it'll return.
Lovely garden to chill out in, and we were thrilled to feed the friendly little monkeys who visited.
WiFi didn't extend to our room, so we worked in the common areas where it was fine.
Location is safe, we had no problem walking down some steep stairs downhill to Botafogo's main street, tho sometimes later at night or at the end of the day, we opted to catch a taxi upslope again.
All in all, a very comfortable, friendly place to stay
