Terrible hotel, even by Rio's substandard levels. (And I've stayed in about 20 different hotels in Rio over the past 10 years). Wife and I stayed on New Years Eve and got the last room available. It was a tiny room with two double beds, an old AC unit, an average bathroom that toilet didn't flush properly, and some cables sticking out of the door. And the main elevator didn't stop on our floor (8th floor). Seriously. Just terrible. Worst of all? The price: About US$450/night. In any other city on any other day that room would have been - at best - US$75.

On the good side, it is in a good location (if you want to stay in high end Leblon). And the staff, even with all the hotel problems, isn't too bad.

Needless to say, I won't be staying at this dump again. Note to Accor, you really are killing your brand by having your name on places like this. Really.

The Mercure is in a great location just a block from the beach and convenient to Leblon's shopping areas. The rooms are very large - our Superior room has two good size bedrooms and sleeping for five (which is tough to find in Rio). There is a small kitchen, which is convenient, although there was not enough dishes in ours to make it very functional. Still nice to be able to avoid the hotel breakfast and have a little flexibility.

One of the nice things about the Mercure is that they don't nickel and dime you. The food in the room is reasonably priced. The internet is free and works well (fast too!). Even valet parking is included if you have a car (we did, and we appreciated this - parking in Rio is crazy).

Our room had two balconies and one faced Corcovado, which was really nice. The view from the rooftop is great. There is a small pool on the roof - very tiny, but refreshing and in a fun location. The gym is inadequate, but not much need when there is such a great running path along the beach.

The elevators were very slow, but there was a note that they were upgrading them soon. That would be a nice improvement.

Overall, a good choice for families.

The location of the hotel is right in the heart of Leblon and close to the beach, with stunning views from the upper floor rooms. However the hotel is badly managed, the cleanliness is not the best, the matainance of equipment is lacking, the breakfast is terrible and personal is very unpolite.

The hotel is only a block or two up from the beach at Leblon so very well located. The apartment was clean and had good facilities. The lifts were fine and I found the staff helpful - there was always someone on reception who spoke English. The air con was noisy but I've met worse. WiFi was strong near the corridor but weak further away - but was free.

The only problem is that the staff does not speak any language except Portuguese, and they do not understand anything.
The breakfast is too expensive, also.
The location is OK, close to the beach.
The appartments are very large and convenient for a family.

Had noted during the booking that renovation was underway and that breakfast could not be included due to this.

Not a lot of sign of the renovation - and the hotel needs it as it is looking tired in the corridors, lifts and my room - and I was astonished and disappointed to find that the restaurant was open after all. Unfortunately this discovery was made an hour or so before check-out and after trekking the streets of Leblon on both mornings for what were fairly expensive breakfasts. the installation of a new subway system in the area is a big disruption to traffic and shopping and creates some narrow and possibly dangerous passages at night.
