It's a paradise-like place. extremely beautiful beach. Just be alert against purse or everything-else-you-have snatchers. Like in every touristic place, there are loads and loads of them. Keep your camera tight in your hand and not around your neck. Keep your backpack or bag in the front of your body and not on your back, something you have to do everywhere from Tokyo to New York, and enjoy the dazziling view and environment

Picture a big city like NY, LA or Tokyo surrounded by sand. No tropical trees or plants, just sand ,dark green water and a million half dressed people . You have to rent an umbrella and chairs or you would bake to death.
Take pictures and cross it off your bucket list

One of the most famous beaches of Rio. The beach is cleaned every night and packed with people most of the day. Ask the hotel concierge about any safety issues. We have all seen the pictures of young ladies on the beach wearing their small bikinis. Be aware that women of any age and body size will wear small bikinis and most men wear tight swim suits. I felt like a 50s throw back in my shorts and t-shirt.

This is the smaller of the beaches. I prefer Copacabana much more because the water is tranquil. A lot of nice bars and cafes very close to the beach at Ipanema though.

We have 2 small kids of 4 yers old who also loved this beach. The sea is a bit rough so they couldn,t play in the water themselves, but they loved for us to play in the waves. You can rent deckchairs and umbrella´s and a lot of vendors with cool drinks and whatever you need on a beach
