Our guide told us that in Brazil there is only one size bikini-extra small so that when a man takes a woman home he gets no suprises!
You will see every age shape and size woman on Copacabana in a tiny bikini! Its the first holiday where I have ever worried about revealing to little rather than too much!
It's a beautiful beach with people playing football and volleyball all day and night.
It's a great place to people watch with skaters, cyclists and joggers as well as markets, beach vendors (the sheer quantity of these can be a pain but with a polite no thanks they leave you alone,) musicians and impromtu parties
The beach cafes are a bit pricey but a convenient and fun
There is something going on 24/7
You cannot come to Rio without having a Caipirinha on Copacabana beach!

To have any understanding of Rio and/or the Brazilian way of life, a visit to Copacabana beach is a must. It is the life blood of the city and the venue for so much – weddings, concerts, sport, meetings – oh and some swimming & sunbathing too. Many might criticise it for being a little dirty and maybe overcrowded but it was wonderful to be able to be part of the life on the beach. And the people watching was outstanding. Obviously take care of your valuables but we found it to be very safe. Take heed of the warning signs for bathing – there are strong currents. If you are there for more than 10 days go into Lojas Americas shop and invest in a couple of cheap beach chairs & a sun umbrella. Much better value (and cleaner) than those offered by the beach bars. Every night artisans sell their wares in stalls that run parallel with the beach. Every Sunday they close half the road so that all things bicycle can use the space.

This was my favorite beach in Rio. Bring nothing but your bathing suit, flip-flops, a sarong, and a little cash. The rest of what you need can be bought on the beach. Reading material not necessary as the people-watching is fantastic. Soft sand, lots of vendors, kiosk stands had a nice staff and renting a chair and umbrella for the day was R$17.

What can you say, it's a beach. But what a beach! Ipanema and Leblon seem to have a better reputation these days, but the sand is all wonderful, and the cachet of spending a day laying in the sun on the most famous beach in the world cannot be beat.

Imagine going to Italy and don't visit the Coliseum or the Vatican. It's the same thing of visiting Rio and don't at least see the copacabana beach. It's perhaps the most beautiful beach zone you will ever see. Just be alert against purse or everything-else-you-have snatchers. Like in every touristic place, there are loads and loads of them. Keep your camera tight in your hand and not around your neck. Keep your backpack or bag in the front of your body and not on your back, something you have to do everywhere from Tokyo to New York, and enjoy the dazziling view and environment
