This is one of the most important imperial buildings in Brazil - the emperors palace. Now is this building used for temporary exhibits. In the ground floor, there is cafebar and free small permanent exhibit about this building (small but nice). Good to visit during our trip through the downtown.

This place is full of the history of the Portugueses empire in Brazil. It is definetely worth the visit to udnerstand the basis of the Brazilian country , its former capital (Rio de Janeiro) and its Royal Family. I would come back with more time to get into more detail on this place. Eventhough that it is small to what you could consider an Imperial Palace (Paco Imperial), it is really nice.

Paço Imperial is an 18th century building that housed the Portuguese royal family when they moved from Portugal to the Brazilian colony. Unfortunately there is not much history to see (other than some tidbits about the building) - if you want more about Brazil head to the nearby Museu Histórico Nacional. But the free exhibits are fine and varied, from drawings and paintings to sculpture. I particularly like the extensive Wilma Martins exhibit. Also there is a very good cafe with reasonable prices (considering Rio is very expensive these days). Try the Felix chocolate cake (R$ 10, U$ 4,50).

Look like a very simple building. Some art inside, but it is only some paintings and beautiful old stairs. It is free of charge so you can check it yourself anyway.

Adoro passar uma tarde bisbilhotando a lojinha do Paco Imperial e curtindo as exposicoes. Na maioria sao interessantes e imperdiveis. O brownie e o cafezinho tambem sao uma otima pedida e fica dificil nao curtir o lugar. Uma delicia de tarde!

A very pleasant afternoon in the Paco Imperial where we can usually see great exhibitions, buy nice souvenirs in the museum store and have coffee and brownie in the cafe. I love this place and try to go everytime I visit Rio!
