The Botanical Garden is great at any time of year. You can see many old trees, some very rare, bromeliads, orchids, exotic birds (you'll need binoculars to see the toucans and parakeets), and monkeys. Some areas of the park are rather busy (around the main ponds and the orchid gardens) others are very quiet (the Amazon pond near the Japanese garden). Depending on your interests you will enjoy spending between 2 and 5 hours there. You also will see people with expensive camera gear there, for nature photography or weddings. The Botanical Garden is the safest place to experience Rio's tropical nature.
