Owner description: One of the most beautiful attractions in Rio de Janeiro and one of the most famous in Brazil. Our mission is to take people to an enchantment, fun and entertainment journey – providing happy and unforgettable experiences as well as valuing Brazilian culture. We constantly invest in safety, comfort and innovative technologies. Our locations constitute natural, geological, historical, and touristic landmarks in the city of Rio de Janeiro. As a natural landmark, it reminds us of our reference to the sailors who come to Guanabara Bay. As a geological landmark, it reminds us of our geological site precisely dating the history of our planet. We also talk about historical landmark because on March 1, 1565, Estacio de Sa founded the City of Sao Sebastiao in Rio de Janeiro literally on its feet. And, finally, touristic landmark because the Cable Car opened on Sugarloaf projected Brazil’s name worldwide. It has been the first cable car installed in Brazil and the third in the world.

The ride over to Sugarloafon the skylift was fun. Excellent views. Saw Capuchin monkeys as you are in the jungle. Should plan on spending a few hours there to really see it all.

We followed a suggestion in the guide book which indicated that you can hike halfway up the mountain on a trail that starts off to the left side of the beach below. The manager at our hotel gave us more detailed instructions, and we were able to make the short steep climb with no problem. Best to have sturdy shoes for this trail. Upon reaching the ridge at the top, you will see many small monkeys, who will entertain you. You can then work your way over to the top of the lower tram. The views are great from this point, especially at sunset looking toward the larger mountain that has Christ the Redeemer on top. You can then take the second tram all the way up to the top of Pac de Acucar for an even longer view.

We had poor weather, which spoiled the views a bit; but even taking that into account, I don't get why this is Rio's No.1 attraction on Tripadvisor. Don't get me wrong, It was very good, and well worth doing; but second best to Christ the Redeemer.
