Owner description: One of the most beautiful attractions in Rio de Janeiro and one of the most famous in Brazil. Our mission is to take people to an enchantment, fun and entertainment journey – providing happy and unforgettable experiences as well as valuing Brazilian culture. We constantly invest in safety, comfort and innovative technologies. Our locations constitute natural, geological, historical, and touristic landmarks in the city of Rio de Janeiro. As a natural landmark, it reminds us of our reference to the sailors who come to Guanabara Bay. As a geological landmark, it reminds us of our geological site precisely dating the history of our planet. We also talk about historical landmark because on March 1, 1565, Estacio de Sa founded the City of Sao Sebastiao in Rio de Janeiro literally on its feet. And, finally, touristic landmark because the Cable Car opened on Sugarloaf projected Brazil’s name worldwide. It has been the first cable car installed in Brazil and the third in the world.

The views are spectacular from this site. As other reviewers have mentioned, go in the afternoon and stay for the beautiful sunset. We went around 3.30pm for a 6pm sunset. Allows enough time to see everything in the daylight as well as at night. The crowds were not so bad even during the Catholic World Youth Day, and the lines move quite quickly.

This is a must for any tourist in Rio. You can take a cable car all the way up, however we chose the cheaper and more interesting option of climbing the smaller neighboring mountain, Urca. Its not too tricky or time consuming and it's much more fun, plus there is the added bonus of seeing marmoset monkeys! Once at the top you take a cable car to the very top of Sugar Loaf, an unappealing option for a neurotic like me but it's very short and well worth it! The views are breathtaking, and it's really quite emotional to see this amazing city laid before you as a mass of twinkling lights. Yes it's a bit on the expensive side but you will regret it if you don't go and it really is so stunning.

Join the hordes and queue your way to the top. But it's all about the view. When you see that vista over the famous beaches you'll forgive the crowds, the cost and the time. Put that photo on your wall.

I live in Rio and have two children ages 5 and 8. They never miss a chance to take guests up to this wonderful mountain to see the view, play on the trails, and buy a nice snack. The preferred method to get up is to climb the first mountain (Urca), which takes about 30-40 minutes, then take the Bondolino the rest of the way up and down (usually the ticket office on Urca is open to purchase what you need up there, but not always--check the Internet). You get the trail to the left of Praia Vermelha, the beach that is just past the parking area.
