we took the hike half way up, which was amazing! the views along the way and the nature touch makes the experience so much better. it can get very crowded once you reach the top, so you may try to find out beforehand. another reviewer mentioned a free cable car ride, but we had to purchase tickets to get on.

“Pao de Acucar”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

Must-do when visiting Rio. We took a taxi to the bottom of the hill and there were plenty of taxis available on the way back. Photo-ops are excellent although you have to watch the weather because it can get very hot up there or windy and if it's misty the views can be limited. Excellent view of the Christ the Redeemer statue and of Rio most of the time. I got some great shots with a little low-lying mist. I think the best time to visit is during the lunch hour when the queues are shorter. It is a gondola ride in two sections, first to a lesser hill and then on another gondola to the mountain top itself with plently of souvenir shops and cafes and restrooms on both sites. There is even a company offering helicopter rides up there if you would like to take advantage of it.

“Breath taking”

The Sugar loaf was the spot that had the most breathtaking views. I would watch out for tourist scams. There are lots of guys in the bottom of the mountain that want to rip you off.

“Amazing views”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

This was a good place to look out over the city and its surroundings. You also have a good view of Christ when you are there. Good to watch the sunset from as the sun will set behind Christ causing a lovely picture. I would recommend visiting sugar loft before you visit Christ as nothing can beat the views due to the height of Christ.
