“As good value for the money as you can get in Copacabana”

First: there is virtually hotel in Copacabana for which you would pay a value that is proportional to the actual quality of the hotel. But this is the overrated Rio de Janeiro and there is nothing we can do.
This said, I can say that Copacabana Sol has everything you need, including good location, cleanness and, above all, extremely helpful, polite and competent front desk personnel.
Morning breakfast is OK, though the quality of the raw materials could perhaps be better. Let's not forget the price.
In conclusion: this is my option for Copacabana.

Room was supposed to be 'de luxe'. For $200 a night I expected better. Twin beds were very narrow. There was a residual smell of smoke. Bathroom was too small to turn round in, nowhere to hang towels. Breakfast room was like a bomb-site. I had to clear and wipe a table for myself, there was almost no buffet left when I arrived. The 2 staff were totally overwhelmed. Two small elevators were inadequate for the number of people in the hotel. Had to wait a long time for elevator and then it was so crowded I couldn't get in. Only one member of reception staff was friendly and smiley. The others seemed like I was an inconvenience and were off-hand. I was expected to pay for the whole stay at check-in, without seeing the room. Likewise when I booked an airport transfer I was expected to pay upfront before we even set off.

I stayed here in mid January.

Pros-
Good location
nice rooms
friendly staff
decent breakfast

Cons-
Loud air con (but has aircon!)
No hairdryer
Would benefit from taxi pick up service from airport

More details:

We arrived at 11pm due to a late flight, and they were incredibly helpful in taking our booking that late. The receptionist spoke good english and was efficient given the time, but still gave good quality information (i.e. maps, etc.).

The breakfast is good. There is fresh juice, coffee and tea on offer, alongside pastries, eggs, sausage, loads of cakes and fresh fruit.

We got upgraded on arrival and the room was lovely (room 107). It had a lounge section (which we didn't really use), a large bed, a good telly with english options (E!, BBC News, CNN), a fridge, but think the room would benefit from a hairdryer.

The bathroom was clean and large. It had a jacuzzi bath and a large walk in shower. The shower could have been more powerful, but I thought the bathroom was really nice. It could benefit from a good scrub in between the tiles for pedantic customers.

We had two air con units in our room. They were noisy and made a large clicking noise all throughout the night. It wasn't completely clear how to use it and you couldn't control the temperature it only had a + or - sign.

The location is three blocks from the beach. It takes about 5 minutes and is a nice walk due to the cafes and shops. There is a supermarket right near the hotel, which we found convienent (it wasn't open late though). The hotel was very close to the tube too.

I would recommend this place for the helpful staff, nice rooms, and good location. What more could you ask for. I think it would benefit from hotel pick up from the airport, we paid 120 real to get picked up and they dropped us off for 90. This would have been a nice service. I also think compared to UK prices this hotel is expensive, so I have only put this at average value.

Stayed on a last minute trip to Rio without reservations, so can't complain about the high price which is normal for Rio. This is a basic hotel typical in Brasil without any frills. Good morning breakfast, friendly staff, clean...so I give 4 stars. They lost a 5th star because the clerk tried to add the booking.com fee onto my "final" price and I had to pull the correspondence and terms of service to let him know that was not how it works.

With all the countless advices and warnings over the internet about the safety in Rio, we felt safe in Copacabana Sol Hotel as it is always busy with tourists and somewhat in the neighborhood of the upper middle class cariocas. There were police stationed in every corner which made you feel even safer.

Good location also as it is near the Copacabana beach (Posts 4 and 5) and also around 20-25 reals by taxi to major tourist spots like Corcovado/Cristo Redentor and Sugar Loaf Mountain. Around the hotel are also numerous restaurants, supermarkets, and shopping stalls.

We were upgraded to a Luxury Couple room on our check-in and we were so delighted.

Menu on their restaurant is fairly priced but not that restaurant quality. Though buffet breakfast selection is satisfactory and quite delicious.

Staff are very hospitable, accommodating and friendly especially Washington and Renato who were assigned in the reception desk. The bellboys are also very helpful and always wear a smile. We have asked for directions and information to them and they have given us all the details we need. Renato even phoned a shop for us to check the exact location and if they are selling the item that we need. Both Renato and Washington are also good in English compared to most of the Brazilians who only speak Portuguese. We did not have time communicating to them which really is a plus factor for a hotel that caters to foreigners.

Price of the hotel room is much cheaper compared to other hotels in the Copacabana area and this includes free wifi. Though we paid half the price of the room for an extension of 6 hours for a late checkout, it is still fairly priced.

Cleanliness of the room is good and we did not lose any of our belongings. Renato even asked us at 7am if we want someone to clean up our room as we are extending for another 6 hours that day.

When our cable tv was not working all of a sudden, Washington sent a staff right away to our room and within minutes it was fixed. They are very attentive on the customer's needs and tried to resolve them as soon as possible.

There are only a few downsides on this hotel -- 1) elevator is small. It says it can carry up to 6 persons but only 4 persons can fit in. 2) There is no exhaust fan/ airconditioning in the corridors thus there is a funky smell when passing by. 3) the walls are quite thin as you can hear people when they are in the corridor or you can hear the conversation of people inside the room when you are out in the corridor.

Overall, I would still stay here if I will go back in Copacabana and will recommend the same to my family and friends.

Rio is a surprisingly expensive city to stay in. We stayed in a place our first night that was pretty disgusting, and were looking to find a new place at the last minute.

Sol is clean and well-run. The staff was friendly and spoke great English. We arrived very early and they kept our bags for us. The rooms are simple but well-maintained. Nice breakfast. Close to the beach. A great option for a reasonable price for Copacabana.

In this days when Rio is really overpriced and a room can cost you more than in Paris, this hotel is a true possibility if you like local architecture, nice mango and papaia breakfast and friendly staff.
The hotel is located on a nice 'rua', 4 blocks from the beach and 2 from Nossa Senhora de Copacabana. In this area there are lots of restaurant to have a nice dinner and plenty of supermarket if you want to buy something to eat for lunch.
