We stayed here towards the end of April 2012 for 3 nights. The hotel is well placed being only 3 blocks from the sea, and in towards the centre of Copacabana so you can wander in both directions. The only other real positive is that the breakfast is ok.

Unfortunately the hotel does look tired and from the seventies.

The room: The room feels dated but it does have a flat screen tv. The air-conditioning is pretty loud and certainly disturbed our sleep, but you need it due to the heat. The road is too noisy to be able to open the windows. The bed was comfortable enough.

The bathroom: The toilet wasn't securely attatched to the wall and the grate in the floor of the shower was loose. Not ideal.

The breakfast was ok but the lady didn't bother saying hello in the mornings, she was just there to top stuff up. The food was tasty and there was plenty of it.

The computer had internet and this was useful.

THe biggest downer for us were the staff, outside on one man who was helpful and made an effort, everyone else just treated us as an inconvienence on their day. This made basic things such as booking restraunts and getting boarding cards very difficult.

Oh well. Made the next hotel seem even better.

The Apa hotel is not cheap but the location makes up for this. It's about 3 blocks from the sea front and close to the metro which was a bonus. We requested a double bed and was given 2 singles which was all that they had. We found the staff fairly helpful but not very smiley- language barrier was a bit of an issue.
In the room and the corridor there was an awful 'drain' smell. The shower wasn't great- no pressure or shower head. The room was large and had a balcony.
The breakfast was good but not brilliant - it could fill you up.
Internet / PC was available and was free for 15 minutes.
Generally it was a basic hotel in a good location- wouldn't go back since there are better hotels.

Room Tip: Ensure you request for a double bed or balcony when booking because it is not guaranteed

I stayed at Apa for two nights. It is in a perfect location not only to Copacabana beach but to plenty of shops and restaurants ideal for anything you might need. The area felt safe and easily to find your way around. The rooms are clean and equipped with all the necessities (though I do find the tiled walls slightly suffocating in the humidity). The staff are excellent and make you feel like you're in a 5 star, they were always at hand to help me decide where to go, eat, how to get ere etc.... Will definitely be checking in again next time im in Rio. Thank you.

Simple!!
Room smell was disgusting. I couldn't even breath. Staff is absolutely unkind. I can't believe tripadvisor's review is good. I bet if you stay in this hotel your vacation be destroyed.

A very functional room in a good location. This hotel had everything we needed and was a short walk to Copacabana beach and the Metro. The room was clean, the water pressure was good, the AC worked well, it had a fridge and a safe, and was very spacious. The staff was helpful (though some were friendlier than others) and we were very happy with the breakfast. It was much cheaper than nearby hotels that are right on the beach. But the room hasn't been renovated in some time. It's not a luxury hotel by any means. There wasn't a lock on the window and the balcony door lock was flimsy (though we felt pretty safe).

I stayed here during carnival 2012. Contrary to other reviews I did not find the hotel ugly or particularly run down. It is basic, clean and the service is good. Convenient location and nice surroundings. Morning staff is friendly and helpful, evening staff less so. Breakfast was adequate. Considering I was there for carnival I got an extremely good rate compared to other similar hotels .I would definitely stay there again. I don't believe in spending outrageous amounts for a place to stay because I'm usually out enjoying myself. I need a safe, clean, and efficient hotel when I travel and this one fits the bill
