“Do not agree at all with the 4 stars rating for this hotel, maybe a 2 stars.”
Reviewed September 17, 2011

When we booked the hotel it was rated as a 4 stars hotel, that is too much for this type of facility, it should be rated as a 2 stars. Beds were unconfortable, very limited amenities, not even a pen or pencil were provided. Breaskfast was included and was good enough, includes fruit, eggs, cereals, etc.

Room Tip: pick a high floor, there is a lot of noise in the sourunding streets.

We had the missfortune to stay here for three nights after a Princess cruise. The hotel is situated on a busy junction 4 blocks off the beach in what must be the noisiest part of town and surrounded by run-down bars on the fringe of the red light district.
Prostitutes, pimps and druggies were impossible to avoid at night and we were back in the hotel before sundown.
The hotel however is a hangover from the 70's, it doesn't need refurbishing - it needs rebuilding!. Our room was installed with an old aircon unit which was so loud it even amazingly drowned out the outside noise coming through the single glazed window and we were on the 7th floor. The reception staff was surly and unhelpful and the bar steward could not make hot chocolate.
Although there is a small rooftop pool, we found the locals would walk in off the street and make themselves at home on the few sunbeds available.
The lift doors had a habit of slamming on you when half in / half out.
Needless to say the decor was nondescript and bland, pretty much summing up the ambience of the hotel.
We won't return.

Stayed there for the second time due to convenient location in central Copa. Just opposite Metro station. Good breakfast but could improve on consistency. Luggage porter at the door and the room maid were the friendliest of the staff......the rest need training for the upcoming Soccer World Cup and the Olympics. The hotel in general and many of its facilities originating from 30 years ago or more need to be upgraded for these events! Loved the pool and the view on the roof however found limited availability and horrendous cost of wireless internet unacceptable.

Room Tip: Maybe requesting an inside room not facing Rua Siqueira C would be a good idea.

The hotel was probably quite something back in the 70s. However, a lot of things have changed since then. The hotel however, looks like it did not change that much. The interior looks outdated and worn. The air-condition is very noisy and so are the rooms. The elevators are terrifying; the doors close violently at the moment you want to enter. Moreover, the elevators are tediously slow. The big plus of this hotel is its rooftop terrace with spectacular views of the city and Christ the Redeemer. The rooftop also has a very decent swimming pool. The location is also ok; the hotel is located a couple of blocks from Copacabana beach. It is a short walk where you have to cross a couple of busy streets. The breakfast is ok but nothing special.

Very good location, good breakfast but the service and attention are horrible. My wife and daughter stayed for 9 days and I accompanied them for a weekend. One day my wife noticed that after the staff made cleaning of the room, some clothes left on the bed were missed (An Abercrombie shirt and other expensive ones). At the beginning we thought that would be among the other clothes, but after searching everywhere just were stolen. We present the complaint at the reception and the only answer we got was to talk to the manager and make a report to the police ( a specific one, suspicious isn't it?). In the meantime I had to left the hotel and after two days I called the manager (Claudio his name) and he has no idea of our complaint but he assured me he would speak personally with my wife. Two days later the manager still not spoke to my wife and what he said was that the only thing we could do was to make the report to the police and present evidence of the theft! So, he evaded all responsibility as manager and delegated to us any action. At the end tourist only stay for few days and can not stay to complete an entire judicial process, then are screwed and the hotel staff knows this and take advantage of that

Room Tip: Keep your things inside the case and locked

We were lucky enough to get a new room when we were here which was not dated like the rest of the hotel.

Shower was great, bed too. Room very decent.

Breakfast had a good selection. Standard Brazilian so cake, fruit, bread, jams, ham and cheese, few juices. Breakfast staff are naff but all the staff are so!

Pool is nice if you use it- but the beach is far better!

Staff rubbish. They just aren't friendly or polite and dont know much. The afternoon receptionist was lovely who did our check in
But that was it.

I would stay again since the price is ok for rio- but if you haven't been before, get some tips from here, or a guide book so u don't need to rely on the staff.

Enjoy rio- it's incredible!!

The hotel is a bit well worn, but my wife and I found the staff to be very helpful and accomodating throughout our stay. Wether it be getting extra towels or giving us access to the hotel services (pool, baths, showers) well after our checkout while waiting for our late night flight, the staff was very nice. I have read reviews on Trip Advisor that say the staff was not able to speak English but I had no such issue during my week long stay as at least one or more people behind the counter was bi-lingual at any given time of the day.
This was my second time staying here and the location is great, only a short 5-8 minute walk to Copacabana Beach and half the price of other places.
The hotel could us some updating though as the overall motif looks like it hasn't been updated since the 60's or 70's, but everything is clean and well kept, just a little worn.
The included breakfast buffet every morning is quite good as well!!
