My wife and I started our 10 day honeymoon in Brazil in Rio at this hotel. We knew ahead of time the hotel was just going to be a place for us to stay, and we were to wonder around finding things to do. First off, don't be scared by all the advice from people about how unsafe Rio is, its really not that bad of a place, just don't act stupid. The hotel was very plain which suited our expectations. For the most part the front desk would answer our questions regarding tourist information. The part that bothered us is everyone, literally is after your money. Like most tourist cities. The hotel charges you for everything they possibly can, including local and toll free calls from the hotel room, which we had no idea until the end of our stay after racking up a rather large bill. We were charged for 3 items from the mini fridge that we didn't consume. They did remove the items from our bill, but I felt as if they thought we were lying. Room service doesn't speak English, and they will hang up on you if you don't speak Portuguese. The rooftop pool is really small, but with the beach only 5 blocks away, it serves its purpose. The breakfast wasn't anything we were used to being from the U.S. We made the best of what was served. The coffee was very good.
Overall the best advice I can give is to avoid the Copacabana beach area all together and stay on the Ipanema Beach instead. It has everything Copa has but cleaner and much friendlier. It is several miles from this hotel, too far to walk. If we could do it over we would of stayed in the Ipanema area. This hotel is all the way on the end of Copa. If you want cheap and don't care much about really good service then stay at this hotel. If you get irritated easily by bad service then avoid this hotel.

I stayed here for new year's 2009 a few weeks ago. I liked the hotel it is very comfortable although a bit far from the beach and on a busy street. The location is not great but for the price and value it definitely works. i liked the rooftop pool.

i booked this hotel online from orbitz. when i arrived to the hotel there was a surprise, the hotel staff said me that they are not working with that company and they refused my reservation (which i had paid online before). it was 17 and i would have stayed only one day in rio and i had no other choice i explained the staff the manager .. for two hours...120 minutes. they said me that they can only accept me to the hotel if only i pay once more.. i did not have any other choice so i paid ... later i got my money back from the company.. but look what they explained to the company is there has been a problem with their reservation system bla bla bla.. They are first class liars. Do not go to this hotel..Rio if doesnt have those beauties (i mean natural) is not a place to go and see. Traffic is very vad. People are not friendly, they only seem that they are friendly.. and there is no organisation ....

Finallly if i would have to go to this city once more i would have give a little more money and stayed in an another hotel

We went back to Rio Copa after only 10 months because we like it so much. Its much traffic outside, but we have to take that when we stay in a busy distric. Ita near to Leme, Copacabana, and just a few minutes away from Ipanema by taxi. The staff are great. The reataurant Soleil is exelent and has the kindest waiters in hole Rio. The pool on the roof is very small, but its just to cool down. If we wanted a bigger pool we went to Copacabana a few steps from the hotel. We will be back soon

I go to Rio de Janeiro twice a year from USA. I stayed in many hotel in Copa Cabana area. This was my best experience. No extra charge for internet, good breakfast, clean room and best service. I requested early check in and hotel provided me the room when I got there after all night flight from USA. Front desk crew was very courteous, professional and nice. Definetly I will stay in this hotel from now and on. And also WIFI works good in the building and it is free.

Good hotel overall. Standard Brazilian buffet breakfast, 5 minute walk to Copacabana beach, free (although very slow) computer in the lobby, basic but clean rooms. Pool is slightly bigger than a postage stamp, but it is outdoors on the top floor--a nice spot to sit and relax. Hotel faces the very very busy Avenida Princesa Isabel. The buses never seem to stop. Ask for a room up and facing the back--was as peaceful and quiet as could be! Surprisingly almost total absence in the hotel of any tourist brochures, maps, flyers, etc. that one would expect in a city as popular as Rio. Travelled with my 14 year old son--we would definitely recommend this place
