“Nice place”
Reviewed September 20, 2012 via mobile

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Food was good. Breakfast quite nice. Rooms were very clean and itis well located. Wi fi was spotty and a great sence of frustration. It seemd to be fixed by the time I left. Would recommend.

The location is really nice. 200m to Copacabana beach, supermarket on the way.
Also close to the city airport.
The breakfast was very good and the stuff was very friendly.
Nice view from the (very) small swimming pool on the roof.
Unfortunately it was not very clean, especially the window in the room was very dirty and made it impossible to make any pictures (as it was also not possible to open the window).

Room Tip: A higher floor room will have better view.

Excellent location only 3 blocks up from Copacabana beach. This means that you are close to everything in the Copacabana /Ipanema area. The breakfast was a wide selection and the hotel was air conditioned (thankfully) and the rooms very comfortable.
Great place to stay.

Stayed on an upper floor on the north side away from traffic noise. Do NOT stay on the street side unless you are used to heavy traffic noises around the clock. No direct view of the beach but nice view of Copa from the roof. Short walking distance to Rio Sul Shopping (4-story upscale mall), restaurants, tourist center, beach, bus lines, and some really good food. Room was comfortable, a mini-split instead of a window shaker for A/C (this is a very good thing), bathroom okay but shower was very large, staff was multi-lingual, friendly and extremely helpful, breakfast buffet was good but heavy on carbs. Booked through a hotel broker and saved some money but still a little overpriced for the comforts and location. For Rio, this is a 4-star hotel but at the lower end of expectations. Like many hotels in Rio, it could use a remodel in places but better than most. I would probably stay here again.

Room Tip: Upper floor on the north side, away from the traffic noise.

This place was not what I pictured when I think of a 4 star hotel. A very small pool, that was more the size of a jacuzzi, was a little disappointing. That being said, It had all that was needed. Nice cordial staff, all or the large majority of which spoke English very well, so there was never any communication issues. They were very helpful in recommending places to go, outside of the obvious attractions.Complimentary breakfast was very good to start any day out. Rooms were always cleaned very well, although kinda small. Air conditiong always worked, hot water never an issue. A few blocks walk from beach. It's not a "pretty hotel" but has all that is needed and always felt safe and secure. This is a place I would recommend, as no one comes to Rio to stay in a hotel.

I stayed here for 1 night in a standard room. The room was okay, the curtains are outdated and needed to be replaced and the view was terrible, it was of the fans from the hotel air conditioning. The bathroom was small but nice and the room itself was cleaned well. The lobby is nice but the rest of the hotel needs updating and better decorating, the bright blue in hallways is really tacky. Breakfast was included and was pretty good. The bed was relatively comfortable. The rooftop has great views but the hotel pool is very tiny, basically big enough to cool off for 1-3 people. The location of the hotel is its best feature, there are restaurants within walking distance and Copacabana Beach is a short walk. It is also only a 12-15 reals local cab ride to Sugar Loaf Mountain, which I highly recommend. This is a good hotel for a budget traveler who is mostly interested in a hotel to sleep in for the night and get a free breakfast in the morning before heading out to check out all of the beautiful sites that Rio has to offer. I would stay here again if the price was right.

Room Tip: Ask for something with a view, even if it is just a city view.

Hotel rates itself 4 star (diamond) but is probably 2.5 to 3 in reality as is the breakfast which had slightly dubious looking hot food and no hot water for tea on most days we were there.Rooms are reasonable but somewhat tired. No hot water for showers on one morning.Staff very helpful and spoke reasonable English.Hotel is only 5 minutes walk from Copacabana beach on an extremely busy and noisy road.Drivers are maniacal with eg buses travelling at up to 50 mph on the multi lane road outside. We bought a tour from the hotel (210 reals each) which did a full city tour including lunch. However weather was unsettled and we didn't see the expected views from Sugar Loaf or Christ the Redeemer. After returning from Iguazu Falls we decided to try again and took a bus from outside the hotel (number 583) to Corcovado - for Christ the Redeemer - cost 2.75 reals.Views this time were excellent but statue was extremely busy. Both the statue and Sugar Loaf Mountain are walkable at a push but you need to have a fair idea of the layout round the hotel before attempting any walks. In hindsight we should probably delayed taking the tour but until you have a feel for the place you don't want to travel thousands of miles to potentially miss out on the main attractions.Returning from Iguazu we caught an airport bus for 12 reals each making it substantially cheaper than the 60 to 80 reals for a taxi.Bus took about about 1.5 hours instead of 20 minutes so don't use if you're in a hurry.Overall the Rio experience was excellent if a little hectic. We combined our week in Rio with a cruise back to Barcelona which allowed us to relax in some style aboard the Oceania Insignia - for information this was the last cruise as Insignia before being hired out to Hapag Lloyd as Columbus 2 so don't try looking for a similar trip.

Room Tip: Hotel corridors are in darkness until you are about a metre outside your room - obviously for energy...
