Was up high facing street. Enjoyed location. Close to Rua Santa Clara, Sisqueira Campos, & Av. Atlantica for eats. Rio has their own accent on top of it being Brazilian Portuguese. Spanish is better than not knowing any coversational Brazilian Portuguese. Enjoy the fruit offerings in hotel. Brazil is the horn of plenty for fruit. The room had wifi but no sauna as mentioned previously. For safe, request key when checking in.

Room Tip: Would second lodging high.

The Mirador is four blocks from Copacabana Beach and is surrounded by plenty of shops and restaurants.
Our room was located at the rear of the hotel with a "lovely" view of the hotel next door but at least it was quiet. Our room was a good size with a comfortable king size bed and the ensuite had a strong shower and was clean. However the airconditioning outlet in the room was exremely noisy and when I mentioned this to the front desk they had it fixed by the time we returned to our room.
The room safe had a unique, but very effective locking mechanism.
Breakfast was served in a nice dining room and offered a good variety including cereal, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit and a good selection of breads and jams. Down stairs near the lobby was a little sitting area where we had drinks after a busy day exploring. We even had a coffee there on our last day and there was no charge. Free wifi was available in our room.

Room Tip: A higher room will eliminate any road noise.

Upon arrival at Mirador Rio and being informed we had no booking due to our Australian travel company going bankrupt, not to our knowledge, the hotel could not have been better, they not only set us up for the night, but upgraded our room so we had a great view, the food was good, the rooftop pool great and the barman up there was a champ, close to Copacabana, restraints, shops etc...I recommend to anyone, cheers (Saude')....

I stayed in this hotel two weeks ago while attending the RIO+20 Conference. I found it very basic and it did not have all the facilities a business traveller would normally require. The laundry and pressing facilities were available not early enough in the morning nor late enough in the evening. It was inconvenient as I had to leave to work early and returned in the late hours.
The hotel staff hardly spoke any English and it was very hard to communicate with them, thank god some of them understood my broken Spanish but I was still always lost in translation.
There is only one restaurant in the hotel for breakfast and dinner, with not so much variety. With the language barrier I never wanted to order from room service either, so I normally ate out with colleagues. I moved to another hotel by the beach in 3 days and was immediately able to feel the difference. The new hotel was a bit pricier, but I was happy to pay the difference to get some service. I would not stay in this hotel if I visit Rio again especially if I was on a business trip.

Bottom line, sort of weird old hotel. Every room had a sauna in it. You could hear toilets flushing from other rooms. Bed was decent and clean. Roomservice staff only spoke portuguese. Food was alright, staff at the counter was very helpfull.

Nice room and bed with no view! Poor service from phone operator, check in and out, just average. Average breakfast, nothing spectacular. Some ants in the bathroom and in the work desk. It is just a fair hotel for business and for 1 night...

Not all rooms in this hotel are created equal. My room was small and narrow but my friend's was large and comfortable.

My room had an air conditioning unit with 3 settings, all of which were very cold. If you slept on the bed closest to the window, then you would feel the air conditioning directly and would have an uncomfortable sleep. With the high humidity of the city, it is almost a requirement to keep the AC on.

The bathroom had a sink, toilet, bidet, and shower stall. No tub. Some other rooms do not have a bidet but have a hose and spray nozzle instead. The shower pressure also varies, depending on the room. The walls are think and you are likely to hear your neighbors, especially if they are a bit loud.

The breakfast and dinner are the best things about the restaurant. The food is great and the breakfast has a hot and cold food section with an array of danishes, cakes, and rolls. The coffee is very strong but good. The dinner buffet is 30 reals and is worth the price, if even for just the dessert. The steak and fish a bit salty.

Note: There are 3 wifi options: 15 minutes for 3 reals; 30 minutes for 5 reals; or unlimited daily use for 15 reals. You will have to get the password from the front desk and you may have to sign in frequently as you are disconnected every time your iPhone locks/sleeps.

Room Tip: Don't take a room ending with the number 2 because those rooms are at an angle so they are narro...
