Reasonably priced hotel given that the World Cup and Olympics are going to push up prices in Rio. Conveniently located near Copacabana beach and you can get to Corcovado rail station for 20 Reals. However, if you have to get to the Sheraton at leblon, it will take you 40 minutes with the Rio traffic and cost you approx 30 Reals. Rio Sol mall is walking distance.

Breakfast is adequate, shower in bathroom is good - adequate for business trip needs. Staff at reception is courteous and helpful.

Room Tip: Elevators are being upgraded - better to be on Floor 4 or 5.

booked last minute through hotwire. excellent value for money. Yes the hotel decor is full seventies... and reno are ongoing. but you can't beat the service. Roof top pool is great. Location work well. Mny thanks to reception staff who worked though airfare reservation problems. Breakfast buffet was very good with lots of staff around to replenish what is needed.
Decro is full seventies... hey you can pretend your are in an old spy movie... Metro station is close by. a number of retaurant and ATM... Beach is down the street but why would you go with such a nice pool on top. What we did is touring in the am had lunch and a nap at the pool then back touring in late pm...

All the dependencies of this hotel is claiming for reformation. The hotel are too old, the room was uncomfortable. The breakfast wasn't enough, there's a lot of bread and they clearly took of somethings and use in the next day. Like it is not so much, was very expensive. I am sure that you can find a better place to stay when you go to Rio de Janeiro.

Been there in 2014 october. Just another beach hotel with tiles in the room. Nice view from the terrace where the pool is. Location is good just 2 minutes from tHe beach. The staff is polite and nice but the hotel needs refurbishment as all there is old. Also they claim they have a gym but there are only 4 posts into a room with nothing else...do not even try it!

Stayed at this hotel while on a business trip. Good location, but hotel is very dated. Nothing quite worked as it is meant to do. The previous occupant had left a toe nail in the bathroom which was still there even after the room had been cleaned 3 times!

Merlin Copacaban was a nice finding for me after so many years of spending lotsa money staying in front of the beach. For a business trip it is ideal. Good, spacious rooms, very good breakfast and a nice restaurant. Staff is friendly enough, and you are a few blocks from Copacabana beach and in a good position to access downtown Rio by taxi. Worth a try.

Room Tip: Get a high floor room in the back, overlooking the greenery of the mountain.

I stayed in so many Copa hotels and can categorically state that unless you are willing to pay $300 for a room, most hotels are like the Merlin with great staff but dated everything else and very expensive.

I went there for a week during a business trip. The positives: I liked the location, Copacabana is very old with dated but Prince Isabel Avenue worked greatly for me. This area has unkept architecture but great pubs and quanit restaurants and it is also nice to have a place 30 seconds from the beach for a daily jog. It is also easy to take a $10 cab to downtown with no stop lights on the way. The staff was as old as the hotel but very nice and helpful.

The negatives were that the room they gave me had a loud (those central type vents) A/C that kept up me up; to make it worse, no wifi in my room. The sheets and towels were clean but old and used up adding to the unpleasant feeling of paying $150 for what?

Room Tip: Dont stay in the rooms facing the Avenue, at 6:30am the noise starts. I stayed in rooms ending with...
