“Overlooking Leblon”
Reviewed September 30, 2011

I was booked into the Marina Palace and was shown to my room - small but clean and comfortable, with a window looking toward Copacabana Beach with buildings in the foreground. I was happily unpacking when the front desk called to say that they wanted to move me to another of their properties (Marina Suites), almost next door, where they had a larger room. Turned out to be a suite overlooking Leblon Beach - absolutely fabulous. Breakfast was very good - continental with eggs cooked to order, fresh fruit juices and excellent coffee. The beach is across the road and there are restaurants all around, including a couple of great juice places. This was a great experience, and I plan to do it again.

Room Tip: Ask for suite 1101

Stayed here for 7 nights.Great location directly overlooking the beach. Leblon is a fab area.

We took a taxi from GIG airport (R$97). Very polite and efficient staff at check in. We had booked a standard room, but decided to upgrade to an ocean view suite. We were allocated a suite on the 23rd floor, but when we saw it, we asked to be moved lower, as the views of the beach are better lower down. We had a room on the 9th floor (901), which was fine. You can watch the activities going on along the beach. We downgraded from a suite to just a ocean view room. Though the lounge area in the suite was nice, there is no TV in the lounge, just one in the bedroom. Most suites have a TV in the lounge and the bedroom.

Each floor has 8 rooms. Rooms 2 and 3 are ocean view suites, room 1 is ocean view. The other rooms have side views, but you can still see the beach, just not as good a view.. Floors 1 and 2 are reception and offices. Floor 3 is the restaurant. Floors 4 to 25 are rooms. Floor 26 has meeting rooms and a coffee bar. We thought the best beach views were from the restaurant. There are stairs from 26 to the rooftop pool.

ROOM 901 - medium size but with a large and very comfy US king size bed. Reasonable storage space. Vood size digital safe. Nice size flat screen Tv with BBC, CNN and some excellent movie channels. Minibar. Rather strange aircon - only on or off, with no adjustments. We used it in the day, but not needed at night. Fine views over Leblon beach - so much going on all day. We were a little disappointed that our room never seem to be cleaned until late afternoon. On 2 occasions it had not been cleaned by 17.00, so we contacted reception, who organised it immediately. Should not need to ask really.

BATHROOM - fairly small, but adequate. Small bath with an excellent shower. good hairdryer. Toilet and bidet. Bathrobes.

POOL - small plunge pool on the roof, with a few good quality loungers. Also a small bar, where you can order food. Good views over the lake behind and along the beach and you can see Christ the Redeemer (but side on). Good quality pool towels provided. Very few people use this pool area.

BEACH - Most hotel visitors use the allocated beach area, where towels, loungers and sunshades are provided opposite the hotel. Great beach to stroll or jog along. You have to cross 6 lanes of traffic to get to the beach, but there is a crossing 10m to the right of the hotel.

WIFI - silly prices. The hotel wanted approx R$20 per day for the faster link. Most hotels offer free wifi now. This is poor. If you go out of reception and walk about 20m to the left, there is a free public wifi area. The wifi antenae is on a lamppost opposite, fby the red beach bar to the left og the hotel across the road. You can also get free wifi at this beach bar. Most evenings we would sit at this beach bar sipping caipirinhas and updated facebook and checking emails. Very nice. So don't pay for the hotels wifi, just walk a few meters to the left of the hotel.

RESTAURANTS - we ate at the hotels restaurant one evening. Good service, nice atmosphere, high quality food. There are lots of restarants within 2 minutes walk of the hotel. Leblon is a great area and very safe. Huge choice of restaurants.. Something for everyones taste and budgets. We walked around the streets every night and never felt unsafe at all.

Supermarket 5 minutes walk away and the Shell bgarage around the corner has a reasonable size shop with water, beer, snacks etc.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Marina Palace. It is not a super hotel, but the location is great. Recommended.

Rio is a fabulous city. We will return.

Tip - use the local buses. Many go past the hotel. We used the white buses mostly. Fixed R$2.50 per journey. We used the buses to get to the city centre, Sugarloaf, Copacobana and Christ the Redeemer. Good cheap way to see the city and meet the locals.

I can't say enough nice things about this hotel and especially the staff. I've been to Rio five times and each time, I look forward to the city as much as I look forward to seeing the staff again. The hotel, perched on Leblon beach, is such a landmark that you will see it any film, video or postcard featuring Rio's beaches. It's located in a such an exclusive area that one feels relieved to come back to a nice private hotel, away from the throngs. The hotel is clean, elegant and boasts spectacular views whether you have the ocean-front room or the partial view. The room charges include a sprawling breakfast with hot and cold foods and fresh juices which is a great deal if you need to skip lunch to tour the city and build up an appetite for dinner at renowned restaurants like Bar d'hotel (next door). The rooftop pool and bar will become your favorite spots to take panoramic photos and entertain/impress friends. As for the staff, they bend over backwards to make you feel at home (especially Tania, Marlucia, Manoel, Douglas, and Paula at the front desk, and Carlos at the bar). On subsequent visits, I have been offered various other hotel options, some better known and some at attractive prices, but there is not substitution for the Marina Palace. This is a home away from home, a chance to go back and visit a staff that has become family. Highly recommended. Ghalib.

Room Tip: If you can, get the ocean front room, but do not be discouraged by the partial-view. I've staye...

Whent to Rio on a business trip and was told to stay in the area that is not so full of tourists. I was recommended to stay in Leblon at this very well frequented hotel - the Marina Palace Hotel.

Leblon Beach is the continuation of Ipanema Beach. Leblon is also one of the most prestigious area of Rio. It's on the called Zona Sul (South Zone) where the well to do brazilians live, work and have fun.

The hotel is not very large but very confortable. The service is excelent, the rooms are spacious and very clean.

Breakfast is delicious with a great variety of fruits, breads, juices and excelent coffee.

The location is great and one of the safest areas in Rio. (The governor of the state lives a few blocks away).

The beautiful Leblon Beach is just across the street. The hotel provides chairs, towels and refreshments if you wish.

There are lively bars and a street lined with many great restaurants in the area.

I will return to stay longer next time.

Very nice hotel..Clean, great location, etc..but what I was most impressed with was the outstanding customer service we recieved as guests there. The front desk staff in particular [ Douglas, Raphaela, Sabrina, Amber and Alexandre] were so accomodating and helpfull that it honestly elevated the entire experince/vacation. They truly went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was enjoyable. For this reason alone, I would highly recomend this hotel, especially to someone who is not familiar with the area/language and would require extra assistance [ie. restaurant recommendations, help with public transportation, activities, etc]

Thank you again,
Tim Brower & Donielle Sasanelli

I was there 2 weeks ago and really appreciated the great location right on the beachside in Leblon and the amazing view from my ocean side room.
Apart for the location the building and its interior are very old styled and need definitely a renewal and several ordinary maintenance works.
The room was very big but it had many problems mainly related to the bathroom that was very noisy and the hydraulic system seemed to be never maintened before.
The strenght was definitely the panormaic view that was really astonishing.
Staff not very professional.
The breakfast was great offering a wide selction of food and fresh fruits in a nice room with ocean front view.
You pay just for the location.

The hotel was right on Leblon Beach (an extention of Ipanema) and in what is considered Rio's safest area. We walked about at night and felt safe. Not cheap but OK for Rio.

Not luxurious - aboyut 3 star rooms but fine for a weekend in this expensive city. Rooms reasonable size and nice walk in shower. Ask for an Ocean Front view - wel worth extra 20 pounds a night.

Staff very helpful.

Couldn't open windows which was a downside.

Room Tip: High floor and ocean front to get fantastic views and not so much traffic noise
