The front desk staff were friendly and helpfull.
The room was spacious and clean, but very modestly furnished. The bathroom needs a make-over.
The location is very good.
The public areas are very small.
The hotel is overpriced, it has 5 stars prices, but it is hardly a 4 stars one.

We stayed at The Marina All Suites Hotel for 6 nights (12/19 to 12/25) on the recommendation of our Brazil travel specialist (who made the booking).

The location is EXCELLENT; you really want to be either in Leblon or Ipenama as they have the best and safest beaches, all the good and hip restaurants, bars, shopping etc. Plus you can walk at night and feel safe (not so in the Copacabana area).
You cross the street and you are at Leblon beach. The hotel has its own stand with chairs, umbrellas and towels.

The reception staff and concierge speak excellent English, they are very helpful, make good recommendations and are nice. Since it is a small hotel, everyone gets to know you... The hotel has a laid back atmosphere, and is popular with Brazilians. It really feels like you are part of the neighborhood. We really liked that.

The hotel has a happening bar and restaurant scene (we tried it one night, the food was average). The breakfast buffet included in our rate was quite good.

Every floor has three rooms, with one room only facing the beach on each floor. We stayed in a renovated room (be careful, some floors have not been renovated) with a MAGNIFICENT ocean view. Our children were in a room with a partial ocean view. The rooms were very spacious. They each had a kitchenette area with a fridge. The beds were very comfortable, and the sheets and towels were marvelous. Bathroom amenities were decent.

Why the mixed feelings?
The building on the outside could use a "lift". The lobby, bar and restaurant area are decorated in a cute whimsical fashion, but the room decor was very basic. Even the updated rooms could use some sprucing up. Also, while the size of the rooms was very generous, the bathrooms were on the smaller side. Lastly, while the rooms and bathrooms were clean overall, they were not spotless (i.e, the rooms were dusty etc, etc,etc....).

First impressions of the hotel are pretty bad,I thought i had arrived in 2 star Spanish hotel.throughout our entire stay one of the two lifts was out of action and on one day BOTH lifts were out of order! We had not opted for a design suite - not sure if it would make any difference.Although the room was very clean it was old,it still hada tape machine as the music system.....wish I Had brought my tape collection with me!
Breakfast was poor,cheap ham,uninspiring fruit,the coffee was good(cappuccino)
The bar downstairs in the evening had quite a good atmosphere
The pool was old and tatty, peeling paint, dirty glass over looking the beach, the bar was NEVER open.
The positives- the front desk staff were very helpful, especially Sergio who arranged tours for us,gave us helpful hints and was generally very good at his job.
All in all,an over priced, over rated hotel, which needs a massive face lift.
They need to up their game with the Worldcup and Olympics coming up!

Expensive, even the breakfasts & Wi-fi were extras. The service at breakfast was very poor.
The beds were comfortable.

In a three week trip in Brazil this was the worst value for money.

Clean, but austure room. A suite, technically, because of a wall separating the room entrance area from the bedroom... But in terms of square meters, no bigger than other hotel rooms I have had in Rio. Furniture was all cheap, bright colored stuff that looked like it came from the "teenage bedroom" decor section of Ikea. Breakfast was uninspiring (boring melons, cold cheese bread, slices of ham and cheese, and bad coffee) which is too bad because in a tropical country like Brazil breakfast has so much potential. Wi fi is expensive, slow (256 kbps) and is charged on a per-device basis so if you have a smart phone, tablet and a laptop, watch out! The fact that i had a clean tile floor, not an old carpet, was very important to me. But not worth the huge price I paid.

The location of the hotel was great but I thought the room was dirty and the furniture was awful. The AC did not work right in the bedroom. We were very disappointed and would not stay there again.

Room Tip: Only stay in one of the designer suites as the regular ones are not nice.
