“Good location. OK facilities”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2013

Stayed here during carnival.
Good location, not excellent but like every other place in Rio, during carnival, prices are overinflated.

Hotel is a typical 3 star.

Breakfast was pretty good, offering a variety of fruits, hot menu and pastries, cereals and bakery.

Staff was friendly but nothing spectacular.

Room was of a good size and clean but, as other reviewers have mentioned, quite noisy due to the A/C units they have. Can't say much about view as it is about 4 blocks away from the beach and Copacabana is crowded with tall buildings.

WIFI has a surcharge and, as the whole of Brazil, quality/speed is terrible.

Forget about gym and swimming pool. They a joke. Go to the beach instead.

Room Tip: Higher floors to try and catch a bit of a view.

My wife and I celebrated New Years in Rio, so all hotels (including this) were heavily overpriced. Nevertheless, we went for this one as it was in the less expensive end and had an excellent location in a quiet, charming street close to the beach and metro stations.
I had read some negative reviews about the staff and rooms, but the staff we met were really friendly and helpful and the rooms were ok. We did have some minor problems (we stayed a full week), but they were fixed immediately.
The rooftop pool is small, but a great place to chill and has a fantastic view!! There's also a small gym and a sauna(?).
Breakfast is good with a large selection of fruits and cakes as everywhere else in Brazil.

[EN]
Overall this hotel is good, but it is far from being excellent: nice location, but terrible view (surrounded by old residencial buildings), rooms neither big or small, LCD TV with cable, minibar. But the installations are very dated, the furniture is old and the bathroom is "moldy" - to say the least.

The wifi only works well near the door, so forget about browsing the web or using any device while you are at the bed - as usual around these parts. Also, it keeps forgetting your login information, so you end up typing the same information over and over.

The breakfast and dinner buffets are very limited, the few options available were good.

It is not THAT close to the metro station nor the beach as the hotel claims, be prepared for a good walk.

I would stay here again only as a last resort.

[PT-BR]

I will try to keep it short:
1. It's overpriced, I mean REALLY overpriced. We moved (ran) out of this hotel when we had the chance and got a room at Sofitel (5 stars) with two huge rooms instead of one for only +30% of the price we paid for this Palace
2. WiFI doesn't work
3. They have an Ethernet cable somewhere in the room, you can get a decent connection via it (the plug is behind the bed)
4. The rooms are dark and old
5. The air-conditioner is terribly loud and leaks in the room
6. We asked our room to be cleaned for two days in a row (a few times a day during each day)
7. The telephone wasn't repaired during three days (it didn't work at all)
8. The reception was ok, concierge service was fine
9. We left the hotel early, because of it's outrageous service and condition, but of course we didn't get our money back (we had to pay in advance when booking)
10. The breakfast was good for a three star hotel

I stayed at the Majestic Rio Palace in November 2011 for 2 weeks and while this establishment has much going for it such as good location for the wonderful beach and transport links, delicious buffet breakfast, helpful front of house staff and entirely adequate shower it was pretty average in other areas.
My room, although only a standard was both small, basic and way over priced, it pretty much resembled military style accomodation was so old fashiones. In addition the TV was virtually on the ceiling and internet was both expensive and painfully slow.
The swimming pool is not suitable for swimming being tiny and the exercise equipment squeaky and rusty.

Never Again at this place and I was annoyed with my friend for recommending it.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

We selected this hotel for the location and the price and were very pleased!! The service is exceptional as is the location. It's only a 5 minute walk to the beach and there are lots of restaurants and bars around. We loved the fact that the hotel was on a residential street and just a block away from a busy street.

The breakfast buffet is very elaborate with something for everyone - the fruit selection was amazing! The room service menu is very limited and wasn't my favorite, but there were plenty of restaurants around to suit our taste buds.

There are a few things to consider: the walls are paper thin so if people are in the hallway talking, you will hear it. There is also a service telephone in the hallway that rings very loud and you can hear it in the room and you could hear the hairdryer down 2 levels. We weren't bothered by any of this as it wasn't very intruding.

Overall, you get very good value for your money and if you have a problem, the staff will correct it quickly. I don't understand why this hotel has such low reviews. The prices in Rio are very expensive, so this is a very affordable hotel (and we were here for Carnival). It may not be a US 3 star hotel, but then again.... we're not in the US and every country has its own star system.
