This is 50 yards from the beach, however the hotel is very tired.
The staff were friendly and helpful
The rooms are compact and although there is reasonable storage
The linens were very worn
The flooring in corridors was tiled so all the people walking along the corridors echoed

The hotel is located in the peaceful neighbourhood called Leme, at the very begining of Copacabana, in a quiet (as quiet as anything in Rio can be) street parallel to Avenida Atlantica.
The staff is very friendly and helpful, the rooms are relatively spacious. The whole hotel could use a bit more maintenance, especially bathrooms, but everything is still fully functional, despite the worn-out look.

Starting with what matters: avoid this hotel if you can. Its location is not bad, just a block from Leme beach which is nice (a continuation of Copacaban), but the infrastructure is outdated and the worse is the unbearable noise that comes from the street from 6AM to much later than 11 AM, as the drunkards of the neighborhood gather around a filthy bar and taxi stand in front of it. Staff is nice but internet is really bad; rooms are large but beds aren´t that nice; all in all there are many other hotel choices in the same region and I wouldn´t recommend this place nor stay there again.

Room Tip: NEVER get a room facing the street if you want to get any decent sleep!

I stayed at the Golden Tulip for a week with two other business colleagues and I seriously doubt that I would stay there again. First the good: The hotel was one block from Copacabana Beach and the breakfast buffet was good and had a large selection of fruits, breads, pastries to choose from. The staff was pleasant. There were plenty of places to eat close by and some stores where you could buy water and such. The bad: The rooms were really small, the bed was uncomfortable, the water pressure was so so, the towels were threadbare and the walls were thin in that you could hear the people in the next room. The Internet was free but very, very slow. You could pay 15 Reals a day for a faster connection but if you have a Laptop, Droid and iPad, they charge you for all 3 devices, 45 Reals a day. If I am in Rio again I will choose a different place to stay.

This is classified as a 4-star superior hotel.

I believe that, compared to previous reviews, rooms have been finally renovated, so furniture and appearance are good. No complaints. What was NOT renovated, though, is the windows, maybe because Brazilians are used to a high level of noise: people are loud, traffic is loud, ... I've been staying both at the 6th and 15th floor, and the noise from outside was for me unbearable (I'm a light sleeper, though).

Also, BOTH rooms were afflicted by tiny ants (and my colleague confirmed he had the same problem in his room). Now, although I personally don't care about a few ants around, we all know what happens if the tiniest amount of food is left unchecked with them around: they actually managed to enter into the blister of my sugar-coated pills! Plus, ants, in a ****-superior hotel?? At the 15th floor??

Staff at reception barely friendly.

One morning, I told the cleaning lady to delay her service by just an hour, but she never came back, so room was left undone.

Terrible room.. dark, dirty and ugly. bathroom reminded me of a slum, with a dirty sensation.
I couldn't sleep in that place and paid for an upgrade.
This second room was classified as 2 levels above the first, and still was bad. At midnight another guest, somehow opened my room's door. The reception did his check-in into the same room as mine!
That was absolutely awful! When I rang the reception the said "Ops.. sorry". For God's sake...
