Spent five days due to Business at the airport. If arriving international (Terminal 1) as you depart customs/Immigration take a left and find an elevator. Go to the 3rd floor (also where the shopping/fast food is located) and you will find the hotel (also part of a steak house (restaurant). Breakfast comes with the room for overnight stays. Breakfast is OK, fruit, cold cuts, eggs, juice, rolls, ect. Yes, no windows. WiFi in my room was sub-marginal and had to go in to the lobby if I wanted a good connection (cost 14 rs per 24 hrs) Not my idea of high speed. Most of the hotel desk staff speak english. My room had a frig, TV is International CNN and HBO2 (in english). Restaurant at night was a buffett (cost about 36 rs) May of had a menu but didn't see it. Only issue was they had also assigned my room to someone else and was walked in on at 1200 AM.

The Luxor Aeroporto hotel is located at the very far end of Terminal 1 at the airport, on a corridor of an upper floor with harsh strip lighting. A short walk away on the same floor is a small shopping mall and food court that offers a good selection of fast-food outlets.

The hotel has tried to give itself a bit of character and ambience with plants and wood used effectively in the public areas. It has a small restaurant of its own, which is probably better quality than the food court and certainly offered a decent breakfast.

The bedroom had no window and had very dated decor. A wall-safe did not work and a fridge was very noisy. The bathroom was adequate and the room overall was of a decent size and was quiet.

Staff were efficient rather than friendly.

The centre of Rio is at least 30-45 minutes away by taxi (fare BR$70-100) and a traveller might get better value and higher quality there, but there's the risk of delays on the motorways (there was a demonstration by local residents of a favella taking place on the opposite carriageway during my journey to the airport) so you have to weigh up that if you have an early flight.

For me, I was mostly content with the Luxor and it fulfilled a need, but little more than that.

We arrived at this hotel very late - after 2am - after getting off an international flight. our room key wasn't ready and after a 10 minute wait we were finally led to our room. after the porter opened the door and turned on the light he turned to us and said - please wait there, one of the beds isn't made.
After leading us back to reception we had to wait again and were told a smaller room was the only other option as the hotel was full for the night. after settling into our room i began to wonder how this hotel had a four star rating - after i shifted my single bed half a metre across to touch the wall, so my 12 month old daughter wouldn't fall from the bed, i noticed a large hole in the floor which the bed had been covering. the room decoration was dated and the bathroom had a bidet which had a drain full of hair.
worst of all was no windows, which i'd been prepared for after reading previous reports on here, instead there was a curtained wall giving a 'faux window' effect .. which when pulled back revealed a 1970s style beach scene photo wall, complete with palm trees.
this would have been perfect had the hotel billed itself as a swanky retro cool establishment. however, given the room's outdated and tired decoration it simply looked weird and not in a good way.
i had considered this hotel a convenient place to stay after a 2am arrival at the airport, however, given our room mix up, the state of the room and the unfriendly staff, i would suggest taking a taxi into Rio and would in no way recommend staying here.

Even though it is a highly rated hotel, this place felt more like a prison.
We booked a 1 night stay at the hotel because we had an early flight back to the US the next day. Check in was not a problem, but getting change was. I wanted to break a $20 bill for tipping, but the front desk said they could only exchange the bill for Brazilian Reals, not break it. So I asked for it to be exchanged, and then they said they don't have enough to exchange it! Thankfully another guest had the money to help me exchange my money.
The room has no windows, no real decoration whatsoever. The locks on the doors never felt like they locked, so we tested it several times through the night to make sure it locked.
We decided to order room service so we didn't have to go out. It took an hour and a half to get the food, and when I called about it the guy on the phone had the nerve to say I gave him the wrong room #. And the food was adequate at best.
When we turned the lights off, the room is pitch black and you have to feel your way to the bathroom if you have to get up in the middle of the night. The bathroom door had to be closed with all of your weight and made a loud rubbing noise when opened again.
The only good thing about this hotel was about 500 ft. down the hall from it was a shopping center with stores and restaurants that we could have gone to had known about them earlier.
All in all, it suits the needs of a place to stay overnight, but any longer than that? You might as well sleep in the airport.
