You know: if you're going to Rio, you're not expect to swim in the sea. The water is usually cold enough to make you feel like a popsicle. But it's still ok to spend the day lying in the sun, and probably Leblon is the place to stay. It's amazingly beautiful, calm, with nice shops and restaurants. A really pleasant place to be - even if you need to go a little bit far to enjoy touristic attractions or even do business.

Usually, staying in this neighborhood is really expensive. But in this hotel you will be one block away from Leblon, right in the end of the world famous beach of Ipanema. It's probably the most affordable way of staying in this neighborhood. As a bonus: most bedrooms have at least a very nice view.

Despite its wonderful location, there's nothing special about this hotel. Indeed, it's only a ordinary hotel, and it'd be really ordinary if it was anywhere else.

There's nothing specifically bad, but there's nothing remarkable as well. But, in this location, anything nicer would be much more expensive.

In the end, it's just value for money: if you can't find anything better anywhere else and does not want to spend more money to stay in Leblon, this may be the best choice.

Final tip: the beach can be noisy sometimes, therefore, ask for the highest room you can.

I was hesitant to book this hotel intially bc there were so many hot and cold reviews. My thoughts (as concise as possible) are below:

Pros -

Clean rooms.

Fantastic location. Ipanema and Leblon (next door) are much better than Copacabana and this hotels has dozens of restaurants within a few blocks. Great view of the mountains and obviously beach front.

Good service. Everyone at the hotel was very friendly and tried to accommodate my wife and I whenever possible. Almost everyone spoke english, which is a contrast to the locals (most people I found knew very little, if any, english).

Very nice rooftop pool area.

Great breakfast for the money.

Cons -

No internet, but none of other hotels offered that as well

The hotel is definitely dated but the renovation is noticeable

Overall - I think that this hotel is great. For those who gave bad reviews, I would imagine that they are comparing it to the JW or a comparable property. This hotel is not a United States 4-star beach resort, but remember, you arent paying for that. If you want a great location and a great value, this is a great option.

Room Tip: ask for a high floor direct ocean front

Stayed here for 3 nights during rock in Rio and got an upgraded room on the 10th floor.
Room was clean and views amazing.
Hotel breakfast could have been a lot better. Rooftop pool and resturant were brilliant and beers in the pool overlooking Ipanema beach is unreal.
Great beach access and you do get umbrellas and chairs from the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the newly renovated rooms

I made reservations at Praia Ipanema Hotel for me, my husband and two teenage sons, six months in advance, to spend a long weekend in Rio. This was my sons' first visit to Rio, so I wanted something to remember, a great location, by the see, with a view!
As I read the Tripadvisor reviews, I specifically asked for two renovated conecting rooms in upper floors. A month before the date I called the hotel, confirming the terms of the reservations, and called again a week before traveling. To my surprise, the rooms we were assigned to were not renovated, even after I mentioned once more the terms of the reservations when checking in! I had to go down to the reception and argue with the receptionist, who changed our rooms after I mentioned I would write a review at the Tripadvisor!? So, the renovated room were decent, clean, but I cannot understand how poorly renewed, considering the location and the prices they charge. The renovation is a superficial make up, and the owners didn't care about changing windows to solve the sound insulation problem that is mentioned on almost every review...
There was only one elevator working properly, so, going up and down recquired a lot of patience... The breakfast is not more than decent, and you would expect some atention to the
decoration of the restaurant in a hotel which is not cheap in a place like that...
The swimming pool, on the other hand, is beautiful, recently renovated, but the terrace is so small that should not receive more than 10 or 12 people at once, or you will be sitting so close to other guests that you'll feel uncomfortable. Imagine if there's children around...
To be fair I should also mention that staff in general were friendly and helpfull, as you would expect from "cariocas".
Anyway, Rio is so beautiful that you tolerate all that, and it seems there are not that many better choices in that kind of location... Probably that's why the owners allow this kind of things happen...
.

Room Tip: Insist on renovated rooms and upper floors, where you won't listen the street noise that much.

Arrived to have the doorman watch me struggle in with my luggage and no offer of assistance.

My superior double room was in fact 3 single beds...when I asked to chsnge rooms I was greeted with a myriad of excuses that you don't get double beds in Brazil (really) to I had only booked a standard room (until I offered to show my confirmation) which magically became a superior room at the end if the conversation.

Aircon didn't work properly and only seemed to cool when on jet engine mode. If you can sleep through that and the road noise you can sleep anywhere.

Breakfast was interesting...free is unusual in Ipanema so a plus point but the entire bread basket of green mouldy wholemeal put me off.

The only positive was the location but not enough to ever return there...some of the more expensive hotels are worth the money e.g. Ceasar Park or some of the others set back a road or two.

I arrived at Praia Ipanema Hotel at night after a long haul flight, but I was so looking forward to it as I had long wished to visit Rio, and the pics of seaside views on the hotel's website made me feel it was a decent bargain :)

I enjoyed the night view for awhile, had room service for supper and went to bed.

And then at sunrise, how excited and knocked over I was at the views from my balcony !!
So Beautiful !! An awesome mountain to my right, cloudless blue skies above, and a happy atmosphere all around.. people taking early morning jogs, walking their dogs on the boulevard, working out on the metal bars (yummy!), etc.. it was just such a spectacular welcome to glorious Rio de Janeiro!

And I enjoyed this view for the next 3 mornings :)

The waves weren't loud enough to hear at night (cos i shut my balcony doors for safety), but I loved it there so much that i skyped my sis and dad in Malaysia to share the balcony views with them.
The staff were helpful and obliging, delivering boiled water each time i asked for it, helping me with directions each time I asked and generally making my stay an enjoyable one! And how could one not mention the convenience of crossing the street with towel and sandals to enjoy the sea and beach atmosphere of one-of-a-kind Ipanema :).. I think i walked a few times from station 11 to Station 9.. and revelled in every second of it. Massive LIKE :)

In a nutshell: the room is good, location is good, but there is no insulation so I couldn’t sleep with the noise coming from the street.

After reading several reviews, I must say that we were pleasantly surprised when we entered the modern lobby. The staff checking us in at night was very nice. Our room was good in terms of size, it had a table and 2 chairs, the bed was big and very comfortable, (so were the pillows); there was a large closet to put things away. The bathroom was small and the annoying thing was that you couldn’t keep the door open, it was crooked and it simply closed. The bathroom could use a renovation, but still it was fine. Everything was clean.

The location is great. It is beachfront, we had beach view (probably that’s why it was so nosy), Ipanema and Leblon is where you want to stay when you come to Rio, close to several bars and restaurants. Then just take a taxi to Lapa to enjoy the nightlife (but don’t eat there), don't miss Rio Scenarium and Carioca da Gema. During the day don't miss Corcovado and Sugar loaf, ditch the museum of "modern art". Dinner is better in Ipanema and Leblon areas.

The morning staff were not nice at all.

Breakfast was good, even though the room decoration with so many mirrors, was a bit annoying.

The worse thing for me was the noise. Even though it’s nice to have a balcony and beach view, I couldn’t sleep with the traffic noise. If only the door would close well (we were on the 5th floor, maybe try to go higher).
The room walls were also thin and we could clearly hear the TV from our neighbors (luckily, that’s all we heard…). The elevator also makes a completely unnecessarily high pitch noise every time it stops on the floor (which you can hear from the room).

I would not stay here again simply because I cannot sleep with so much noise, but for my husband, that has a heavy sleep, it wasn’t a problem. Other than that, I found the room comfortable, the price very reasonable and the location is tops.

Room Tip: If you choose a high floor you may not hear so much noise from outside
