Windsor Guanabara Hotel

Centric business hotel in Rio, services are great, breakfast buffets, contrary to buffets in other places, are excellent... My favorite is the sweets section.

Despite being right in a big traffic intersection I could barely hear street noise from my street facing room in the 9th floor...windows are sturdy and thick.

Internet access is included at no extra fee and is of very decent speed...I was able to connect my three devices simultaneously.

Three blocks away there is a "market" where I went shopping for World Cup souvenirs...there I bought an "official" Nike Brazil football team shirt for my son for the equivalent of US&20 vs US$100 at "formal" stores....just leave your jewlery at the hotel room....

Have cahipirinhas at poolside at the top floor overlooking the Rio sky...drinks service closes 11:30pm

Clean room, nothing fancy, just good.
The selection of crisps, nuts and other snacks in the room could be better.
And, the old complaint: no phone numbers posted in the room. Like you have to guess what the numbers are for reception in emergencies etc.
Not a problem, as I wasn`t in any emergency......but what if?

Location...it`s the centre of Rio.
I like it, but it`s pretty unsafe at night.
It`s very central though, just don`t expect any real nightlife!

Good breakfast, and a very efficient elevator system!
All in all, I`d stay here again!

When you go to Rio for Leisure you probably want to stay by Copacabana\Ipanema but I'd recommend to take also a night or two in centro (would recommend Thu\Friday).
It's a short taxi ride from Lapa which is full of bars, amazing restaurants and nightlife (people dance samba in the streets) - this happens on Friday night.
And walking in centro for shopping during the day can be fun.

The hotel is great - comfy beds - very clean.
Most hotels in Rio won't have new Amenties but at least in this hotel the maintenance is great!

Room Tip: Take a high floor as it's very quite plus take a cab to\from during the night.

Excellent rooms and exquisite restaurant. The hotel location is excellent if you're on a business trip, since it is located in the downtown middle, close to subway station. The hotel area may be dangerous at night, so don't wander around, specially if you are a foreigner tourist.

Room Tip: All rooms are equally nice. Upper floors have a nice view of the President Vargas Ave.

I stayed there recently for one night with breakfast included. The hotel is downtown and therefore if you are doing business downtown it is very convenient.
The rooms were large, mine included a set of table and chairs in a separate annex to the room, but they are dated - as are the bathrooms. The room was very clean though, as was the hotel generally.
The bed was very comfortable.
I went down for breakfast at 830 and it was very busy, however service was good and the buffet was freshly stocked, with a large selection of cooked and baked goods. A good selection of drinks too.
My only negative comment is that check out was extremely slow and frustrating.
Generally, if you want a hotel in this area, I would recommend it.

My colleague and I stayed here at the end of a week of business meetings in Rio, having stayed in a highly unsatisfactory hotel earlier in the week.

The Windsor is a good business hotel if you need to stay in Centro. It's well located and staff are very helpful and accommodating. Those at the front desk have good English and are very hospitable. Rooms are large and clean with good, quiet air conditioning units. Bathrooms have plenty of towels and good lighting as well as a powerful shower and jacuzzi bath.

A nice touch for those on business is the mini "office" just inside the bedroom door which has a good sized table and 2 chairs, making it possible to have meetings in your room without feeling like you're meeting in a bedroom. Very useful when travelling with others and needing to collaborate on work.

Food-wise, it's buffet all the way. That could get boring after a while, and it's true the restaurant has zero atmosphere (and really horrible artwork), but it suited us very well as we had a packed schedule (underestimated how long it takes to get anywhere in Rio traffic using Rio taxis...) and we were able to grab and go. Breakfast had a good selection of juices, pastries, fruit, meats etc. and good coffee. Dinner and lunch buffets also had plenty of variety and interesting (über-sweet!) Brazilian desserts. Restaurant service was friendly and efficient.

There is a bar on the roof as well as a pool (didn't have a dip, no time!) and nice views over the city and the water and mountains.

As our return flight was at 11pm, we wanted to keep our rooms and check out in the evening. The hotel offered us a half day rate for this, which was very reasonable.

Despite the location, even the rooms overlooking Av Presidente Vargas are quiet.

All in all, a very good experience. It may not be the world's most stylish hotel and the decor is very dated and spartan, but it's clean, reliable, friendly and a world away from our experience in another Centro hotel earlier in the week.

Room Tip: If you are a business traveller, make sure you get a room with the separate "office" at th...
