This hotel is clean, and breakfast was a good self service buffet. The hotel is dated. I last stayed at this hotel in the 1970s and it is just the same now. It seems spartan and dated. Surprised more money has not been put into updating it, but then it wouldn't be so reasonable, however we moved after a couple of nights as we had air conditioning unit above our room which was noisy. and was fed up with it. Good location though.Down the end of Copacabana, so we could walk to Ipanema Beach.

Room Tip: Ask to be away from road and not at the top as air conditioning units are on roof. Single glazing in...

Nothing special about this hotel at all. Clean, but dated. The room decor is not inviting. Merely functional.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the street can be noisy

My husband and I stayed 5 nights in a standard room at a rate of U$S 110 per night. Location is excellent, 200 yards from Copacabana beach (near Lifeguard and Restroom area 5), on an avenue parallel to the Avenida Atlantica. There is a supermarket on the same block, and several eateries in the adjacent blocks. It felt a safe area.
The standard room we got was on the fourth floor, with a window facing a ventilation shaft the other side of which were the windows of two other rooms. This is an inside room, with no natural light whatsoever and from the floor plan, there are four of these per floor. The only way you can see the sky is crouching next to the window and looking up beyond the 12th floor, which is where the shaft ends. And it is a small shaft.
So, if you leave your room early in the morning and come back at night, you might not mind. However, if you are used to having sunlight in your room, this is not the one for you. I did not see one of the more expensive and larger superior rooms which face the street and the back of the building, but they might be better.
The king size bed was made up of two twin beds, with their mattresses, pushed together, covered by a king size bed sheet. From my experience, this is routine in most 2 or 3 star hotels in Brazil. If you are cold and need a blanket, you need two blankets to cover the bed. Once you accept this, the mattresses are very firm and comfortable. Two types of pillow are available: one firmer, the other softer.
The room has a closet with sliding doors and 4 drawers, a mirrored vanity sector, a mini fridge with a TV set on it and a table and two chairs in an alcove next to the entrance door (see photos). Our room looked as if it had been re painted fairly recently, and the bathroom looked improved too.
Maintenance is not too good. On the wall next to the bed, there was an electrical and telephone socket which lacked a cover and had a piece hanging out. It was never fixed in the 5 days we were there (see my photo of room 407).
Air conditioning is central and you can turn it on or off with a switch above the bed. Breakfast was very good. Juices were local flavours and they varied every day, there was always a hot choice of scrambled eggs and sausages, and porridge, which the plastic label next to the heated and covered pot called "gruel". Fruits, breads, cheeses and cold cuts, and the possibility of making your own toasted sandwich with the bread and filling of your choice.
The hotel offers free beach towels. And speaking of towels and linen, they could do with a change. One pillow case had holes in it. And the bath towels were wearing thin.
Reception staff was helpful and they even phoned the shuttle company to complain when my airport shuttle was late. Their English is not too good, but they try. My daughter called on the morning we were leaving and had trouble getting them to understand who she wanted to speak to. When they finally understood, my daughter was told we had left, although we were sitting a few feet away waiting for the airport shuttle.
All in all, at the price quoted, I would recommend it. Remember that this is Brazil, not Europe, so you have to allow for some flaws. The greatest drawback is the lack of sunlight.

Room Tip: Standard rooms on lower floors open to a dark ventilation shaft

I arrived at the hotel at 2 am after a long flight. The reception staff was very helpful and spoke good english and I completed the check-in formalities in no time.

The rooms are small but decent. I did not have a room with a view but I guess the only other view is that of the street as you can't see the beach from this hotel.

The breakfast is good and has a wide selection. The staff is friendly and cooperative. The reception staff shared some coupons for local restaurants that got me a discounts. The room service provides a limited choice to eat and the laundry service and housekeeping met my expectations.

It is one block away from the beach and a wide variety of restarurants and eatries within two block radius. Everything from fast food (KFC, dominoes, mcdonalds etc.) to self-service buffet and BBQ joints.

The area is safe to walk around even at night and host a lot of places to shop also. The hotel is on a busy street and it is very easy to find a taxi.

I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Any room would do. Location is pretty good.

Before going to Rio, we read many very bad reviews about this hotel and it made us very scared. But since this was the only hotel available hotel we had no choice but to book it. To our surprise, the hotel was nothing like the reviews had said. It was a great hotel. Great location, great staff and rooms are clean and same size as most 3 star hotels. The staff is very helpful and friendly and know English very well. The only negative is that although the breakfast is great, it's the same every day and only 2 choices for those having a hot breakfast (eggs and sausages). And also sleeping at night is a problem cause of the noice from the traffic. But overall, we were very happy with everything and would stay there again.

After reading the mixed reviews I wasn't sure about this hotel for my third trip to Rio. I am President of Operations for a USA hotel company, so I know hotels. I just returned from an eight night stay.

Arrival was very late after a 12 hour delay thanks to American Airlines.
Check in was effficent - no problems.
Room was just like the photo - a king made up up two twin beds put together.
Bathroom renovated with granite touches.
Bed was medicocre but I slept well everynight!
Two pillows on the bed plus three more to choose from in the closet.
Room very clean, and good housekeeping EVERY day.
Breakfast was typically Brasilian, the same every day. Scrambled eggs, wieners, fruits, breads, yogurt, cereals etc. Worked for me. Coffee was so-so, but very Brasilian!
Wifi worked - faster on the by minute connection, but worked better than many US hotels.
Location was great - two blocks from the beach, close to the Ipanema end of Copacabana.
The Othon poster in the elevator says this is the most economical and functional hotel of the Othon chain in Rio. And I agree. Was fine with me. For $100 USD a night, I felt like I got what I paid for and quite content.
Withim this price range I DO recommend.

It is a friendly hotel with good location but the rooms are rather old and not very friendly.
In general is a good hotel to sleep and to walk in Copacabana because it has a great location. the breakfast is varied and good and pays the price.
