“Good location”
Reviewed September 24, 2009

I selected this hotel based on review. Ipanema is bit quiter than Copacabana so selected this. I had initially blocked a 100USD room but found it too small and window without any view, so moved to road facing (with partial beach view) room costing 280 R$ and one final day of stay to the best room costing 480 R$ (top floor and beach facing). The staff were co-operative when I asked for child bed at last moment. Rooms were clean, bathroom average, bed a bit bouncy and due to wooden partition between rooms, I could hear sounds from neighbouring room. Staff was decent , speak understandable English and well mannered. Restaurant is good only for morning complimentary breakfast, food is overpriced and I think locals prefer for the view and drinks only. Good view of beach when having breakfast. Restaurant packed on weekends. You can walk out from restaurant to the beach so very conveniently located. They do not have electronic safes but I found all items in place so guess its safe. Service fee in cash has to be paid at time of checkout so spare some cash. Supermarket and Dominos pizza are real close. You can walk to Copacabana but >10 mins distance. If the beach room is what you want and you are OK with budget treatment for a bit high price (for location) then go for it.

Booked this hotel as the last hotel of a 4 week trip around Peru, Argentina and Brazil - and wish I'd booked a different one. We saw the location and thought it must be good - the location was by far the only good thing about this hotel. The first room we were shown smelt awful and was very noisy. The second room was slightly better. The staff were miserable, the restaurant was expensive and not good, the beds were uncomfortable and the room hadn't been updated since the '60s. If you can afford to walk 2 minutes to the beach, book a different hotel... please!

The rooms here are so small and have not been updated in ages. When I walked in I was instantly depressed. We had a street view on the 3rd floor and would have been up all night from the noise. The AC didn't work either. When I asked to see a different room they showed me an even smaller room facing the inside of the hotel with a swamp cooler outside the window as big as a small sedan. One perk, they didn't charge us for canceling our reservation. We went to The Everest Park Hotel which was 1000xs better for the same price. Also, one of the front desk men was so miserable. Mauricio was very nice. If you stay here get an ocean view. It is in a good location.

Although simple and very small, the Arpoador Inn is a very nice recommendation for someone who would like to stay in Rio for a very reasonable price at an excellent location, at Arpoador, near Ipanema and Leblon. At the Arpoador Inn, you are not overcharged, the rooms are clean, and although some of the furniture is a litlle bit old, the matress is very good and the bathrooms have been modernized, so you can have a very good shower (hair drier is available at the reception, but no shampoo or shower cap, but plenty of supermarkets and drugstores near by for buying them at low cost). Also, the staff is very friendly, always ready to help and the breakfast allows an excellent view of the beach. The lifts are also modern. Nevertheless, there are some problems, the internet is expensive and if you stay in one of the rooms facing inside the hotel there is a constant noise from machinery and no view from the 4th floor down. It is possible to sleep with the air conditioning on and the windows closed, but it is somewhat annnoying if you prefer to leave the window open. So, I would recommend picking a more expensive room facing either the beach or the avenue. Also, in spite of a good breakfast (included), the restaurant is expensive for lunch or dinner, and nearby also there are a lot of star-rated restaurants and bars that offer meals at more friendly prices and with more quality. Therefore, if you are looking for a simple, honest, low-cost hotel at Rio, at an excellent location, with facilities at walking distance the Arpoador Inn is you choice.

This is the best hotel you can pick in Rio. The location is awesome near Arpoador beach, you don't have to cross the street to go to the beach like Copacabana Hotels. Price is very low and rooms are confortable and clean, breakfast is very good too. I recommend it to everyone going to Rio!

When you travel to Rio de Janeiro this is the best hotel to stay, not only for the low price comparely to the other hotel´s but also for the location. Rio de Janeiro have 2 avenues near the beach, where everything happens: Av. Atlântica e Av. Vieira Souto. The Hotel is right in the middle of this two avenues, in one side Copacabana and in the other side Ipanema. Arpoador Inn is the only hotel that doesn´t have a road between the Hotel and the beach, so you can take your breakfast just seeing the sea =)
The rooms are not luxuary, they are very simple but clean, the bathroom is excellent (very good whater pression on the shower).
Breakfast is included and very good too.
Reception Staff very friendly and allways ready to answer your needs.

The service tax that they charge in the checkout is optional, but if you dont ask them about that they will not tell you. The value is like a tip for all the staff...
I didn´t accept to pay it, i preferred to give individual tips to some persons because the service tax is very high, it´s like 5% of the final bill.

Enjoy your Holidays, Rio it´s the most beatifull city in the world!

Stayed at the Arpoador Inn in late March 2009. Everything about the hotel was good, particularly the loc ation, except a R$140 service charge, payable in cash only upon checkout. I still do not understand what it was about (it was not local taxes). Nor was it disclosed at the time of booking.
