We rented three rooms, a suite and two deluxe rooms. All were clean and well, if simply, furnished. The suite had a spectacular view and a comfortable separate sitting area. The rooms were a bit small, but had balconies with partial views of the ocean and partial views of Corcovado. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful and fluent in English The breakfast was excellent. The restaurant is just okay and very expensive. I wouldn't eat there again. The rooftop bar is spectacular. The fitness center is more than adequate and has a great view. Internet is expensive. Rio is expensive and this hotel is good value for Rio, but not cheap. The rooms were more than suitable for the class of hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who doesn't insist on a top-of-the-line hotel and who is okay with being at the East (unfashionable) end of Copacabana, far from Ipanema and Leblon.

We spent 2 days and 1 night in Rio de Janeiro this week. Although we had a late night flight and the hotel was sold out, the staff was terrific and allowed us to use the facilities all day.
We had a room with a beachfront balcony - definitely worth the extra few dollars to hear the surf all night long.
Although we preferred the vibe of Ipanema, the location on Copacabana was terrific.
Make sure to visit the pool on the roof for caipirinhas and appetizers.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights at the end of a two-week trip to Brazil. We had the honeymoon suite and splurged on the honeymoon special, which was worth every penny. Our room was on the 19th of 20 floors (only the rooftop pool, bar, and exercise area were above us) and we had a spectacular view up and down Copacabana Beach. I can't speak about the other rooms, but this one was simply perfect, as was the entire honeymoon setup (champagne, chocolates, fruit, breakfast in the room, rose petals, etc.) The rooftop bar was also great and provided a great view of the Christ monument. The front desk staff were all friendly and fluent in English. Some were more helpful & knowledgeable than others, but they were all polite and friendly. The only issue that we encountered was that whenever we asked the doormen to get a car for us, our ride to wherever we were going was exactly twice as expensive as it was when we got our own cab for the return trip. There are legitimate cab stands all over the place, but perhaps the hotel cars are more expensive because they are nicer . . .. Overall, the value for our suite was superb, and we will definitely consider staying in this hotel in the future.

Stayed at the Porto Bay in April after reading the rating on trip advisor. Overall, it was good but it definitely isn't #1 in Rio. If I went back again, I would stay in Ipanema. Copacabana was fine but it just doesn't have the same atmosphere - also there weren't that many restaurants around the hotel so we had to get taxis to most places. The views from the hotel rooftop pool are amazing - the Corcovada, Sugar loaf and over Copacabana beach - and the sun loungers are really big and comfy. The downside was the pool - TINY - you can't swim in it and it's only 3 feet deep and I wouldn't recommend ordering food at the bar as it wasn't very good. The rooms were average, what you'd expect. The breakfast buffet was really good - loads of choice and fresh fruit. Overall, it was good but I wouldn't stay there again as I'm sure there's better in Rio.

Stayed at hotel in April 09 after reading reviews on tripadvisor. I have previously stayed in the Copacabana Palace. I would prefer to stay in Ipanema or Leblon, but for the value offered i happily stay in Copacabana area. The hotel offers great service, great breakfast buffet, fantastic pool and bar on top level. I would class the rooms as 3 or 4 star but above what i expected. Would gladly stay here again for work or pleasure.

When researching our trip around Brazil we went to great lengths to book this hotel based on the reviews from trip advisor, as well as our travel company. I am so pleased that we did. The hotel was lovely, with a great location and the roof top bar really made it.
The rooms were nice - not 5 star, but definitely a good 4 star standard.
Breakfast was lovely - and i now have a very bad chocolate banana craving, that can't be satisfied in the UK.
I would recommend this hotel to anybody - and although not the cheapest, is well worth paying for the quality that you get here.
Thank you for a great stay.

After hours of reading reviews and checking prices, I booked the Porto Bay Rio. We had looked into the Fasano in Ipanema ( $510 USD plus 17% taxes) and the Palace ($400 plus taxes). I decided on the Porto Bay after reading a few reviews and the price of $200 per night. The hotel is nice, rooftop pool with a STUNNING view is awesome! Breakfast buffet is great. The entire staff is very nice. We had a basic room - decent with a nice balcony and side ocean view. I was very pleased with the price we paid and all the amenities. We had friends at the Palace and they had NO view and NO balcony at 2x the price. we joined them for snacks & drinks by the pool which is nice, but they were not impressed with what they paid and the rooms. The Porto Bay is a nice hotel, great amenities, friendly staff and compared to other hotels, a great deal.
