“Good location, excellent service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2012

We spent 3 night at the Marriott in October. We arrived early and our room was ready so we were able to grab some breakfast before seeing the sights in Rio. The staff was excellent. Gabriela in the concierge was fantastic. She answered all our questions with a smile. Fabian in the small cafe ordered us Brazilian chocolate balls, which I recommend highly, even though the hotel only makes these on the weekends. The beach was nice, but the water is FREEZING. The hotel provides, towels, chairs and umbrellas. You can't beat that. The pool looked nice but we spent our time at the beach. The room was smaller than I am used to when staying at Marriotts in this price range, but Rio is an expensive city. We had a 4th floor room with an atrium view. Make sure you close the blinds since everyone who walks by can see inside. I would recommend this hotel for someone who wants a nice hotel in a big city.

We stayed in the Marriott on Cococabana Beach in Rio for 3 nights in April 2012 before embarking on a cruise. Hotel is in superb position overlooking Cococabana Beach. Good quality bog standard hotel rooms with all the ammenities. We had a room overlooking the beach. Public areas all very well appointed and to a high standard. In the evenings there is a Fish Restaurant about 50 yards away from the door of the Hotel that we used twice. This is good as you are not supposed to walk out too far at night along the beach front, even though we did - but you need to be aware of the supposed "joggers" that may come along as they can run up and snatch a necklace apparently - this did not happen to us and we walked about in pairs during the day quite happily to the shops and cash points. Even so you are warned to be careful and not walk about flaunting gold necklaces and watches etc. Hotel is in a wonderful position for visiting the city and other beaches.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the beach as many of them do and the view is great.

Proximity offer great convenience, the hotel offers great upper deck pool side bar and spa. They also offer an executive lounge or Concierge lunge for platinum members. the Hotel staff is nice, the rooms are very clean and updated, the food is great. The only down size was the Concierge, perhaps this was bad week, they didn't seem as sincere and helpful as I would expect. Outside of that, this is a great hotel to experience downtown Copacabana Beach.

This is one the best hotels in Rio but that does not mean it is very good. If you intend to sleep at this hotel you should check your booking in advance, they should confirm you a room with even numbers (ocean front) and you will enjoy your stay. If you have a room with odd numbers, "atrium view" as they say (windons on the the internal part of building, no sunlight) you will be depressed. They have a nice Japanese restaurant (really good). Their continental restaurant offers good breakfast and lunch buffets. The gym has modern equipment and is open 24 hours a day. Staff in general is nice and efficient. All in all you will have a nice experience provided you have a room with sea view.

Spent 4 nights here in August, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Friendly, competent staff and comfortable room with ocean view. Size of room was more than adequate, but I was travelling solo. Nice, but expensive breakfast buffet.

Got stuck here last week; unable to book Fasano or Copacabana. Rooftop deck is nice when you can use it. Cleaning is a bit substandard; food below average. And I paid $600/night for an interior view twin room that reeked of ammonia.

Stayed here only 1 night for work. I was very impressed by the hotel. The room was very nice, traditional in style, not overly spacious, but certainly big enough. I was fortunate to have a nice ocean view, as well. I only had one meal at the hotel, in the bar area. The food was excellent, the menu was somwhat limited, and definitely not typical bar food. Foodies will be pleased with it.

The rooftop pool and outdoor seating offer great views of the beach and ocean. I wish I had more time to explore outside the hotel more, but the hotel certainly seemed to be in the heart of it all. Work or pleasure, I doubt you'll go wrong staying here.

Room Tip: Definitely find a way to get an ocean view room. The views are wonderful.
