This is a nice hotel with a great location between Ipanema and Copacabana beaches. Just a short walk to either beach, restaurants, bars, etc. The rooms are spacious, clean, and the mattress is nice and firm. The breakfast is plentiful and fresh (great coffee!). Highly recommend this hotel for business, couples, vacation. Good price/value.

it's not the perfect one, but yet a good choice.
Room is nice, considering it has a separate living room. The bathroom is quite small. The bedroom itself is a little small, and the one using the window side of the bed may have a hard time accessing the bed (considering unit 707).
The main problem, for me, is the AC. The outdoor unit stands just under the bedroom window, so you can hear everything during the night. It should be close to the living room window...
Location is a great point. Close to Ipanema beach (which is on the right hand side) and copacabana (on the left hand side).
Taxi to/from the airport (GIG) costs around R$ 55,00.
For those willing to pay a fair price for the taxi ride: DON'T pre-pay for it on the arrivals area. The same ride will cost you around R$ 120,00 (the double!). USE THE TAXIMETER!

A tip: for those arriving @GIG and heading to Zona Sul (south zone: Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon), the fastest/cheapest way is the following:
Tunel Rebouças - Corte do Cantagalo - Lagoa.
Saying that will show the driver you know where you want to go, so he/she will, probably, drive this way and not make you pay a lot more driving in circles... Without transit, it may take around 30/40 minutes to Copacabana

Room was not what i expected, a bit too smallish, rooms on second floor and above noisy due from out side car traffic, not a lot of english channels available on television, half not available due to restrictions, internet speed is a bit slow, swimming pool and pool surrounding area small, not too many facilities by pool. no hotel bar, breakfast room cosy, but small, no dinner restaurant.

I had stayed at the Mercure Arpoador the year before so I was looking forward to a spacious living room and bedroom accommodation up to the Accor standards.
Mercure Ipanema was however a total disappointment.
First the hotel has a major issue: it is located in a very busy road and has no double glazing. Despite being on the sixth floor we could hear a lot of traffic noise.
Second the hotel seems to lack staffing. Rooms are not cleaned daily before 5pm and put aside one or two staff at reception it feels like a ghost hotel.
We found the living room very tiny in comparison with Mercure Arpoador. TV in the living room was not working properly. TV in the bedroom was equipped with a more modern cable receiver and worked fine with all channels available.
It is not a bad hotel but it is pricey and for this sort of money it should be faultless.

Pros
Breakfast is really good with a nice variety each day (always lots of fresh fruit and pastries, hot entrees, meats and cheeses, etc)
Service - everyone was really nice and helpful
location - you can walk to ipanema beach or copacabana in less than 5 blocks
building - newer, modern building

Cons
rooms were a little small
pool is in terrible location (no view, stuck between two buildings) but who needs a pool when you have the beach
