“an amazing hostel!!”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

For me Lisetonga Hostel is an amazing hostel. Here you find staff that is extremely nice, you are located in a great area of Rio de Janeiro and the whole hostel is lovely furnished. In short this hostel really has character. The breakfast is very good and the dorms are spacious. I felt comfortable there and would definitely go back.

Went there to stay just 2 nights and didn't want to leave at all. the location is just perfect; around 10 minutes by walking and you get to the beach. I stayed in a 7 people sharing room; it was clean and traditional; a little bid noisy for early birds, i guess, but nothing to be annoyed about.
If you are looking for some guiding around the city, i totally recommend LUIS, one of the staff which guided me into a tour showing not only the touristic part of Rio but also the human quality of the locals.

I really loved this place. Going to such a big city as Rio, I thought it would be very unpersonal and cold... then i was really pleased finding Lisetonga.

Good aspects:
1-You can walk easily to Copacabana beach, main bus stops, metro station, shopping center or tasty and cheaps lanchonetes. Its even close enough from Pao de Azucar and Cristo Redentor to make them both in one day.

2-This place as no entrance sign but you feel at home as soon as you enter, this place as a soul. Small and cozy living rooms are perfect to meet fellow travellers too.

3-The personal is friendly (even if they dont speak english, they have the patience to explain) and even offered me a free caipirinha and earplugs (in case there was too much partying downstairs).

Bad aspects:
1-its hard to find at first and you need to be healthy because you have to climb up to this peaceful favela (or pay 2,50R for a little moto ride!)
2-the neighborhood is a bit loud (proximity of a school) and there was no curtains in my dorm

Room Tip: If its available, go for the one in the tower!

Was slightly worried as someone told us hostel was in a favela but it is a pacified favela and the area is very friendly and safe. Awesome hostel, beautiful building. Rick on reception was very helpful and welcoming.
Really close to awesome restaurant Bar du David just up the hill and first right. Best food we had in Rio.
Couldn't recommend this hostel more.

The environment was very nice! Very friendly staff, and very knowledgeable about Rio. Very clean, contemporary and beautiful. I loved the hammocks located at the top of the tower and the delicious caipirinhas sold during the Lisetonga happy hour. However, if you're looking to get some sleep during your time in Rio, this may not be the best location. The people living in Leme love to party. For a younger crowd or people really looking to experience the nightlife of the Marvelous City (or heavy sleepers), Lisetonga is perfect!

We had a great experience staying at Lisetonga Hostel. The hostel was very unique with a great atmosphere and a lot of character. The rooms were nice and the staff always helpful and friendly. It is a smaller hostel, which is nice because you get to know the people you are staying with. I would defiantly recommend Lisetonga!

We stayed here for three nights at the end of our 3 month trip. As Rio was so expensive, we booked into a dorm, which was clean and had good light.
The hostel is in a favela at the end of copa beach, but it is obviously not one of the rougher favelas as there is running water, electricity and pretty good infrastructure. Bus services are a 10 minute walk downhill. Me and my daughter wandered about at night, with camera/backpack and never felt threatened or uncomfortable.
Rick, on the reception, was friendly and welcoming and sorted out our football tickets to the Maracana. If he wasn't around, it was harder to try and get info as not all the staff speak english.
The hostel has fantastic cooking facilities and the common areas in the courtyard and out on the patio were lovely (tamarin monkeys came to visit us via the telephone lines!). Nice roof terrace with hammocks was also a great place to hang out and relax.
Wifi was good, and breakfast was also pretty varied (no eggs, but cold cuts/bread/jam/fruit and nice coffee).
Overall, a good hostel with soul, not just somewhere to sleep, but somewhere to meet people and feel at home. Esther, the Amazonian Parrot, was a bonus!
