“Laid back Julio”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

We recently did a trip to Rio, and our tours were organised for us with Julio. We did a half day tour, and Julio was excellent; friendly, knowledgeable, and with a good sense of humour. We felt very comfortable with him. He took us to all the places we wanted to get to, and since we only had two days in Rio, it was well worth it to have someone local to show us around. The only reason I made this very good and not excellent, was because we didn't have enough time. Our fault not Julio's.

“A great tour guide”
Reviewed June 29, 2012

We went on Julio's Tijuca Forest and Christ Redeemer Statue tour. He came to pick us up despite us being late because I got the location wrong and all along the way pointed out places of interest with a wealth of stories and history of the places we passed by on the way to the sights. Entertaining and engaging I'll definitely be booking my next Rio local tour with him on my next holiday.

“Julio is a great tour guide, a gentleman, a great translator, and very professional!”
Reviewed June 27, 2012

We were fortunate enough to find Julio's website when looking for a half-day tour of Niteroi. Julio was totally professional before, during, and after our trip. He speaks fluent english and Portuguese and was very easy to work with and hang out with.

He confirmed twice via email, called when he said he would, and picked us up in a nice, comfortable new SUV. It was one of the nicest cars we rode in during our entire trip. He was an excellent driver, an excellent tour guide giving us history and interesting facts about the land, and took us to some of the most beautiful places that we saw in Brazil. He got us home safely and on time, and we really enjoyed spending the day with him. The cost was reasonable and we would defintiely use him again! Highly recommended!

“Perfect guide for our family”
Reviewed June 20, 2012

We had originally booked with another guide and the day before the scheduled tour, the guide had to cancel for a family emergency but recommended Julio in his stead. The first day Julio met us at our rented apartment and drove us through the city to the Tijuca National Forest where we visited the main highlights as well as a hike to the Waterfall of Souls, a fun hike that allowed my boys to scramble across rocks and even get wet in the waterfall. After a thorough visit to the park, he took us to where the handgliders land and we tried our first acai...delicous! This was a half day tour and lasted about four hours. The next day we had Julio for the whole day. He took us to Corcovado to start since the weather was clear and sunny and we saw the city along the way. After visiting Cristo Redentor, we had a quick juice (and another acai) at the snack bar, and continued to our next stop, Santa Theresa. Driving through this quaint part of town and hearing about its history and the surrounding favelas was neat. We made a stop at a beautiful viewpoint (Palace of Ruins?) where we could really see the surrounding area. Our kids were getting a little cranky at this point so Julio suggested lunch. I really wanted to visit the Cafeteria Columbo so Julio rearranged the stops so we could go there. He dropped us off at the cathedral downtown and told us to go check it out while he parked the car. It was far prettier inside then outside. Julio then guided us through the very busy downtown area to the restaurant where we enjoyed a great lunch. After lunch he drove us past the arcs of lapa to the tiled stairs of Lapa where he also introduced to the artist Selaron who loved our two kids. He even grabbed one and drug him over to the side of the stairs, having him use them as a slide! Julio led us into Selaron's studio (where he also lives) and explained the art. Next we drove through town to Sugarloaf where we rode the cable cars to Urca and then onto Sugarloaf, hanging out at the top until the sun set and the lights of the city twinkled on. Our two sons were obsessed with seeing monkeys so Julio led us on some nearby trails at the top of Sugarloaf where we finally spied one in the trees! As we sat and drank, Julio gave us wonderful recommendations for the rest of the stay and even offered to make calls for us if necessary (we speak almost no Portuguese). He drove along Copacabana beach on the way home. In transit throughout both days Julio explained Brazilian history, culture, and language and answered all of our varied questions from the educational system to carioca meals. He was incredible with our two sons, ages 8 and 5, who were so comfortable with him at the end of the two days that they often ditched us to walk with him on the tours and talked about him in the days after, hoping to run into him. He was an all around great guide that made our time in Rio incredible. We would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a great, flexible guide.
