My boyfriend and I did 2 tours with ViaCopa as they were the company recommended by our hotel. The first was an afternoon tour to Sugar Loaf. The guide was really friendly and funny but didn't actually give us very much information. She accompanied the group to the top and then gave us about half an hour to roam around.

The second tour was a morning tour of Corcovado. We had a different guide who was more informative but less entertaining. Again, she accompanied us to the top and gave us time to look around. A word of warning - the tour doesn't take the train up to the Christ, so if that's on your list then this is not the tour for you. After Corcovado, we went through the city to see the cathedral and the soccer stadium - both of which we stopped at for 5 minutes for photos.

We had a good time on both tours, but probably could have achieved the same thing ourselves without a guide.

We book the day in Rio program. There were just three visits (the same as in the much shorter Rio express program) and a lunch. Corcovado, Cathedral and sugar loaf were the stops. All the other places we just passed by: maracana we didn't even stop the bus, sambodrom we stopped but didn't visit the place. just pictures from the bus.
The rest of the time (all together 8,5h) we picking up and dropping off people from different hotels , stayed in traffic congestion and one souvenir shop, which offered the sam stuff you find anywhere else.
The description on the web site of the visiting places is some what cheating. because you just see most off the places through the bus window.
If this is your style off discovering a city you will be fine with the program. Perhaps "rio express" has less traffic time.
For 540,- R$ for two person you visit the same places and using a individual transport.

My husband and I chose a five-hour Rio Express tour from ViaCopa Tours because we had limited time in the city. Our guide Carlos spoke English very well and gave us lots of interesting facts along the way. Included in the afternoon tour were stops at Corcovado and a ride on the cable cars to Sugar Loaf Mountain. We also drove by some of the city’s other major attractions, though we did not have time to stop for photos. Be aware that you need to be flexible when doing anything that involves driving in Rio traffic. The tour bus (small, maybe 20 passenger) arrived 45 minutes late for our hotel pickup because, we were told, there was terrible traffic and other passengers had to be picked up first. However, when it finally arrived, we were the first aboard. By the time we had picked up all nine passengers, it was an hour and a half after the tour start time. Due to the late start, we missed sunset at Sugar Loaf and arrived and left in the dark, not exactly what we had hoped for. Also, it was difficult to get any good photos in front of the Christ statue at Corcovado because the sun was low in the sky, behind the statue when we arrived – I would suggest taking this tour in the morning if you are there in early fall (May) as we were. If you have more time, two half-day tours might be more relaxing and allow for photos at some of the other famous Rio attractions.

My girlfriend and I purchased the Corcovado and City tour and were very happy with the outcome although for some reason it was cheaper to order the tour through the hotel front desk than to call the company directly. The bus came to the hotel and picked us up. It wasn't an overly large bus (seated around 30) so the experience was not impersonal. There were at least three different languages being spoken on the bus and our tour guide was able to speak all three (although I think Spanish may have been just because it is close to Portuguese) and she made a point to converse with everyone in their native tounge. The trip allowed for ample time at each attraction to view the area and snap photos so you didn't feel like you were being hearded around the tour. They even made time for some unplanned stops like a photo op when a troup of spider monkeys wandered onto the roadside or the stop for an area below the clowds so that we could get photos of Rio that wern't available at the top of the mountain. The tour guide was even kind enough to provide us imformation about Rio to help us plan the rest of our trip. when I asked her about a tour to Sugar Loaf she said that the mountain was only a six minute walk from our hotel, saving us a good amount of money and ensuring that we will continue to use their services whenever we are in Rio.

I also went on the Rio Express tour. Great circuit of the city with stops at the city cathedral, Corcovado & Christ the Redeemer statue and the sugar loaf to top it off. I took the afternoon tour, we were on the Corcovado by dusk & the sugar loaf just after sunset. Magnificient. Wholly recommend booking the tour for the first day of your Rio trip to gain some perspective on the city. Just a little more detail on history & significant sites would have be good, but on this particular tour the guide was flat out catering to 3 different languages.
