My daughter and I started our 3 week trip here with the New year's festival and spent 5 nights here. Baron Garden is a truly welcoming Bed & Breakfast that make you feel very much at home. Our hostess Iaci was very welcoming, patient, and helpful. She speaks excellent English and was extremely helpful in assisting us to book our next stop. The staff is very friendly & helpful. The 2 dogs there are friendly & good company.

The house has many charming & historical features and is kept clean at all times: the big community kitchen, pool area, balcony & garden seating with a great view being on top of a hill were most enjoyable. Rio is hot & humid in Jan, so the pool is perfect & refreshing. The rooms do not have AC, nor bug screens at the windows, at least ours didn’t, so be prepare with bug spray or a net. It does get nice breezes.

The walk up & down the hill is a bit of a trek especially on uneven pavement & cobblestones. We found that if you exit then Inn go left, a bit UP the hill, there is a set of stairs that cuts down the middle of the hill that is much easier to navigate.

The location is great. Very close to the metro and a central plaza with shopping, restaurants, & markets. Having use of the fridge and kitchen was great as we were often too tired to go back down and up the hill just for dinner. It also gave us a chance to compare notes with other travelers. The neighborhood felt quite safe. Also, down the hill on the main street, there are always police presence here & there.

I highly recommend Baron Gardens to all.

My partner and I had spent a hectic few nights by the beach on New Years then moving on to a hotel in Lapa. We wanted a more unique experience and Baron Garden was perfect for this. Iaci the host is a lovely lady and her staff are helpful and courteous. The house itself is charming with high ceilings and a beautiful view from the hill where its up on. The pool is amazing and we took a dip every morning before going out into the city. It is very close to all the bus routes and a metro stop so its very easy to get around from. Having use of the kitchen is great as well, its a great way to save a bit of money and having dinner in the sitting area with the view is definitely a great way to spend an evening. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Room Tip: For couples the private double room facing the balcony offers a great view with a balcony!

My husband and I went backpacking for four months through South America and Rio was the last city of our trip. This place had been recommended to us by other travellers so we booked a room there for our last three nights.
Our hostess Iaci was very welcoming. We were delighted by the room itself (very spacious, high ceiling, a lot of character) but the location of the house was even better: we could see the Christ from it and the coast as well. The swimming pool was a bonus (we were there in December and it was very hot!). Breakfast was included.

I stayed here for a number of weeks, due to work commitments, it was a truely magical place to be, sitting round the pool in the evenings, if you didnt want to explore the neighbouring area every night. At one stage during carnivale there were 22 of us in the house. Yet it continued to be confortable and a very happy place to be. Its spotless at all times and everyone from Icai the owner, to Giselle & Fatima who work along side her are absolutly wonderful and really made me so welcome at all times.
