We arrived at the hotel at about 9am so well before the usual check-in time but this wasn't a problem for the hotel staff and we were informed that despite our early arrival, our room was available and we could use the room straight away.

The hotel and the rooms are modern and very clean. Room service was excellent and very reasonably priced. The pool on the roof is small but who cares when Copacabana beach is right across the road? The cocktail bar on the roof is wonderful and provides excellent views of Copacabana. Breakfast provided enough variety for even the most fussy of diners.

Located on Copacabana beach, the hotel couldn't be better positioned. Ideal for walks up and down the beachfront and across to Ipanema.

Rather than go on organised tours we decided to visit Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf Mountain ourselves. Very easily done with a short and relatively cheap taxi ride to each.

On our return to the airport we used the hotel car which was only slightly more expensive than a taxi and obviously more reliable in terms of price as it is a fixed rate so less chance of being ripped off by a taxi driver. One hint though is that if you are going to the airport at anywhere near peak rush hour make sure you allow plenty of time as the traffic congestion is horendous.

In summary, an excellent hotel with modern facilities and a location second to none. I'd have no hesitation in recommending this hotel for anyone wanting a Copacabana beach location.

Don´t get me wrong. This is an overall good hotel. But it shouldn´t be #1 on Tripadvisor. Yes, it´s brand new, across from the beach, and has an awesome rooftop pool. BUT it´s still a 3-star hotel, with King beds that are actually two twin beds pushed together, doors that don´t provide any sense of isolation from the other guests and non-smoking rooms that used to be smoking rooms. Plus, there´s no concierge, so you´re at the mercy of whoever is at the front desk if you need any tourist information. Next time, I´ll find a place off the beach and save some money.

I had a booking to stay five nights at this hotel, but I left after three nights to move to another hotel. This hotel is not worth the rates charged. The hotel advertises "135 rooms and suites with king size beds." I was given a room with two small twin beds. The hotel was fully booked and they would not move me to another room; the only offered to push the twin beds together.

The beds were rock hard and uncomfortable. The room was modern but I'd call it "cheap modern" -- the beds and furnishings were akin to what I would expect in a new college dormitory room. There is nothing luxurious about the rooms.

Wireless Internet is charged at about $20 a day.

On the positive side, the location right on Copacabana beach is pretty good and the shower worked well.

For the value and location, this hotel was great. Rooms were clean, modern and as all other reviews state, exactly as pictured. When we first arrived in Rio, the hotel was supposed to pick us up at the airport, they never showed up....this was very upsetting, but did not have much to do with the actual hotel stay itself. Upon arriving at the hotel, we spoke with Sergio at the front desk-he was very condescending and rude and told us that we were unable to check-in until 2 pm ( it was 9 am), even despite our troubles at the airport with the hotel's "pick-up service" ( for which i gave them a credit card to ensure the pick-up).

Sergio also let us know that the manager would be contacting us sometime during our stay- which never happened. he also tried to rip us off several times with the car service at the hotel-beware of this. We asked him to get a taxi to go to the Jardim Botanico and he insisted we use the car service for 36 real-the taxi ride to the Jardim was 12 Real.

We did meet some great staff- Gabriel who works the evening shift was incredibly sweet and helpful and made our trip and opinion of the hotel-despite the rocky beginning-much better. Gabriel gave us a room upgrade to a partial Ocean-view and was just very sweet and helpful the entire trip (we were there for 11 nights).

anyways my main takeaways are-beware of the hotel car service charges before you take it anywhere, Sergio is not someone you should complain to because he will not help you or care, Gabriel is fantastic.

Arena is currently #1 on TripAdvisor's popularity index for a reason.

The hotel opened just last year and is housed in a beautiful glass building right on Atlantic Avenue, the street that runs along Copacabana. The rooms are ultra-modern and look exactly as pictured on this site. We opted for an oceanfront view (the upgrade didn't cost too much more) and thought it was worth every penny.

The pool at the top of the hotel is small, but offers a panoramic view of Rio. There's also a sauna and a fitness center with 3 treadmills.

We received 5-star service at the hotel. The staff at the front desk was very helpful and spoke English fairly well (not so common even at high-end hotels in Brazil). Be careful about the tours and transportation options they offer, though -- you will either have to bargain or look for better deals elsewhere. As an example, they offered a cab to take us to the airport for 75 reias. When we mentioned that the yellow cabs right outside the hotel had quoted 50 reias, they backed down and agreed to 50. In general, I would recommend going with the non-hotel cabs. One yellow cab driver, Jorge, works right outside the hotel and speaks fantastic English -- going for a ride with him was like getting a free tour.

Breakfast at the hotel was not superb, but it did feature a wide variety of choices: fruits, yogurt, cereal, eggs, sausages, pastries, desserts, etc. The dining room does have a view of the beach and is a pleasant place to spend the morning. Speaking of dining, try Porcao in Rio (the Flamengo branch) -- it's a great churrascaria with a beautiful buffet in addition to the rotating cuts of meat.

Internet service at the hotel cost 30 reias a day, or 40 centavos a minute. There are computers in the lobby you can use if you don't bring your own. Internet cafes are plentiful, though, so use those if you can. Same goes for money exchanges -- the hotel can change your money for you, but you won't get a good rate.

Many reviewers have cited concerns about safety on Copacabana, but I never felt uncomfortable walking to and from the hotel. Obviously I wouldn't wander around late at night (even Brazilians wouldn't do that), but I do think the claims about crime are grossly overblown. Use common sense and you'll be fine.

Overall, we had a very positive experience with the location of the hotel, the rooms, and the service. Go now (!), before everyone gets wind of this hotel and they can afford to hike up the rates.

Great modern and clean room, excellent service, delicious and expansive breakfast and top notch restaurant as well as an amazing roof top deck & pool. Right in the middle of the strip overlooking the beach.

As others have mentioned, Aldo was great as he suggested a day program for us to walk Copacabana beach till the Fort and have a nice snack at the Colombo Cafe, then walk further to the Arpoador Park so we can also walk Ipanema beach. He suggested we take the Metro and get off downtown on Cinelandia station to see the Teatro Municipal, the Museum of Fine Arts and the beautiful staircase of the public library. We were also advised to see the main Colombo Cafe. I would also have to mention Sergio, marcio and Reinaldo who were also helpful in suggesting places to eat. The hotel was very good about lending us the adapter for electric plugs so we could regenerate the camera batteries.

The service including the breakfast was very commendable. They were even able to make a copy of a map from my tour guidebook for free. The location was right in front of the ocean and across the beach---very convenient. The decorations were upscale modern and the lobby was spacious. I even liked the sink in the lobby restroom.

Wish it had free internet so I could have checked my e-ticket before going to the airport.
