I made reservations in a hurry, then was shocked by reviews on other sites. What a pleasent surprise once I arrived! The Hotel has been newly referbished and the new rooms are fantastic! I am accustom to "cold-only" showers so until they either install or repair the boiler it's cold showers. To me, the Granada is a great value at just over R$200.00 reais per night in the central of the "Wonderful City" you honestly cannot go wrong. Free parking was a super value but until they complete repairs in the lower parking area be prepared to find mud smeared inside you car upon return. Internet was not available during my stay but I really did not have time for it as ithis was just an overnighter. I will stay here again even with the negatives as the positives. The Staff were really helpful though English was not something they had a handle on.
Great surprise for sure!

Room Tip: If you require hot water, you better ask first...before checking in or reserving. My stay had no hot...

The hotel is modern, comfortable simplistic rooms. Good breakfast choice. Close to the business quarter, city centre and jazz clubs. Approx. 15 min relaxed walk to the Rio Museum of Modern Art and the attached seaside promenade..

The staff on my first night tried to rip me off on exchange rate (offered about 60% of what was a decent rate). Expensive for what you get. Only wired internet (despite advertised as wireless) and very slow. You can hear everything going on the hotel corridor. Far from the beaches.

First of all: forget the hotel's website, this is totally outdated, the photos do not match with reality. This site is being totally renovated, but the rooms are already renovated, the furniture are very new, the facilities in General were delivered. The frontdesk is not ready yet, nor the facade, someparts of the facility are a mess. But, If you are looking for a place close to the downtown, well located and a good night's sleep, the hotel Granada has the best cost-benefit among the business hotels of the city.

Stayed here for 3 nights in a triple room. The room was very clean and the beds very comfortable. I can't fault the room. Breakfast was a buffet, serving a good variety of food and drinks, very good breakfast. The hotel is in a good location, near Lapa and the bars around the corner, but for sightseeing or beach, then its not walking distance. However the metro is only a short 10-15 minute walk, which for 3.10 Real a ride will take you nearer to all the spots you want to go too. Only negative about this hotel would be the reception staff who did like to keep you waiting for ages at the desk whilst they chatted on the phone, but I would still stay here again.

The Location of the Hotel is more authentic and cultural than copacabana which was great, but it is also slightly grotty and you will catch the strong smell of urine and sewage as you walk down the street and you will step over the odd sleeping homeless person. During Carnaval there are non stop all night street partys in the area which were amazing. We were told by our taxi driver not to walk on the streets in that area but we did and the locals were very friendly(we were a group of 10 guys though). I would only recommend this location during carnaval when the street party are going on.
The Hotel room itself was a pleasant surprise. Clean with new samsung flat panel tvs on the wall and modern decor, some rooms have desks missing and there are no tea making facilities or irons in the rooms. With the a/c unit off you will wake up covered in sweat but when I put it on I woke up with a sinus infection and ended up in hospital when i got back. The water in the shower only seems to go up to lukewarm and doesnt get hot. you can wait 10 to 15 minutes for the lifts during breakfast its best to take the stairs. The reception staff dont speak much english but are very helpful and friendly. Breakfast is not bad. There is still much renovation work going on and this is very much visible from the outside. Once you get past that its not a bad hotel. a lot of effort has been made to make this hotel comfortable and they are cetainly getting there.

Room Tip: Request a room with a desk and be aware some rooms that sleep the same number of guests are bigger t...

Got a reasonable deal via www.hotels.com (pre-paid!. Checked in at lunchtime, by 7am, other guests entered my room (just got out of the shower), by 9pm, I got harassed by two housekeeping staff (quite unbelievable!), banging on my door, ringing the door bell and screaming at me through the door (in Portuguese, a language I do not speak). Raced down to reception, was told I did not complete the registration form (a complete lie), they just gave my room away twice, of course. Got back to the room, could not get in again as my key was blocked (same happened the following day). Asked for some compensation for this drama, nothing...

Apart from that? My room was clean and spacious, breakfast was great (staff were nice), WiFi in my room was very slow (did not work for an entire day once), the hotel is still under renovations, A/C in room is very noisy.

Because we were in Rio mainly to go to the Carnival, we were advised to stay in the Lapa District, due to the proximity to the Samba drome, walking distance approx. 1.5 km., thus avoiding the problems of getting taxis or buses in the early hours of the morning when leaving the Samba Drome. Although this advice is correct, in hindsight, I would rather have stayed near the beaches and battled for a taxi for the 1 night of Carnival, than stay in this area for the 4 days we spent in Rio. We felt very unsafe walking around this part of town, particularly at night, when there were thousands of drunk, revelling party-goers milling around outside the hotel, and in all the surrounding streets.
The Granada Hotel's web-site makes it appear much nicer than it is. The decor is very old and dated; the mattress was very thin and we were only provided with one rather flat pillow each. I requested extra pillows every day, but although they said OK, they never appeared!! There was no hair dryer in the room and when I asked for one, was told they did not have any - maybe next year!! The staff could hardly speak any English, although one of the receptionists did try very hard. We were led to believe that there was internet access in the lobby, but there is not!!
We did however, have a great view of Christ, the Redeemer statue on Corcovado Mountain from our large bedroom window, and the included breakfast buffet was quite good, although could have been hotter.
The hotel is very close to the Cathedral and the Lapa Arches and public transport is close by. The rates @ BR300.00 per night were excessive, being about 3 times the normal price, due to Carnival time.
In summary, I wouldn't recommend this hotel unless you speak Portuguese and need to be in that area.

Room Tip: Upper floors for good views of Corcovado Mountain
