“More Than Just a Great Cooking Class!”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

I always like doing something food related when visiting a new place and reviews for Cook in Rio convinced me this this was the best option for Rio. I was not disappointed! My husband and I attended a class in early August with 5 other students. We spent the first 3 hours learning about Brazilian food and culture and cooking a huge lunch, and the last hour eating said lunch. Chef Simone is interesting and knowledgeable about all things culinary and carioca. She is also a riot! So funny and friendly. The class is also personal. I had contacted her in advance with concerns that my husband doesn't really like fish and so she added a chicken dish to make sure he had something to eat. And she even made me a special tea when she found out I wasn't feeling well at the beginning of class. The food was delicious and the experience completely enjoyable. If you have 4 hours free in Rio, I highly recommend this class.

“Cooking & Carioca Culture In One”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

This was definitely a very unique and memorable experience. For anyone whose interested in getting to know the Rio culture and not just see the tourist sites this is worth the investment. Simone, the owner, is both a great chef and teacher but gives invaluable views into what Brazil and Rio are really about.

From a cooking perspective - The reviews that state for any level seem accurate. Simone is good at recognizing your level and tailoring the instruction accordingly. We did the muqueca, which was very tastey, along with the side dish. The caipirinhas are also amazing - and two will leave you feeling pretty good for the afternoon. We even had an extra side dish due to a surprise visitor bringing fresh duck eggs. Even that pop in visit showed Simone's love of fresh food, clean cooking and the people in her life.

We left feeling very full - and appreciating the Carioca culture even more - the simple luxury of great food, great drinks, great people and great experiences. Definitely worth it for anyone interested in more than just the sites!

“Must-Do on your Trip in Rio”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

I wanted to give my boyfriend a special gift for his birthday, so we went to Simone during our trip to Rio. Both of us were highly satisfied with the course! The origin of the receipt (we cooked Feijoada), the preparations, the drinks, the food, the laughter, the restaurant...let's say the whole situation just matched perfectly! Simone really understands how to entertain her clients, teach them at the same time and is open to any questions you'll have. The course is also a good opportunity to learn about Brazilian culture and the implications. Don't worry about her English skills - they are great! After the course, you can ideally visit Rio's centro, since the restaurant is directly located behind the government buildings.
In short: Go for it!

“What a great way to spend a cloudy day”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

Simone was a great host. Excellent value for money as you get to make drinks and you get to eat the food you make! Nice area and easy location to find and then lots of other things to see and do to finish the day off in the area. Would recommend anyone to try this. Would suit anybody with any level of cooking skills. Just a great and interesting way to spend the day.

“Simone was great”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

The chef is very candid, friendly, and personable. The food and drinks were delicious. The restaurant is also in downtown Rio and so a nice spot to leave and do some sight seeing and people watching.
