The hotel is good overall. Room size is excellent and the furniture comprises a working table and balcony. Internet is good and free to access in rooms. Bed is large and confortable, shower is nice. The location, inside a condominium, makes it quiet. Breakfast is good (fruits, eggs, juices, milk, coffee, cakes, cereals, breads, cheese, etc). Staff is attentive. However, Barra is completly far from the city center and getting to it is very expensive by taxi. There´s no metro nearby. It took me more than a 1 1/2 hour to get to Botafogo Beach (rainy day) and 50 minutes to Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon (rush hour). Consider renting a car if your purpose is to visit turistic places (in my case, I went to a Congress in Barra da Tijuca). Be careful with taxi fees, mainly when you arrive at the airport.
Hotel prices in Rio are usually higher than other cities and by the price you pay at Bourbon you could receive more value from other hotel. But considering the alternatives available in Rio, I would recommend Bourbon.

Room Tip: If you get a room at the back and at a higher floor, you will have a nice view of the beach.

My room in this hotel was fantastic. It was large, it had a nice bed, a good-sized desk, large closets, and a marble-floor bathroom. The furniture was made of fine quality wood. The flat-panel TV was quite large. In short, this is a luxury hotel and you have to pay good money for it, but it's worth it. The hotel restaurant served good food but the menu did not have too many items. I guess they decided to focus on doing a few dishes right. The hotel lobby and restaurant were on the small side. The staff was courteous and professional.

The room is spacious and with a desk for a confortable computer usage. Although I have asked for a double bed (I am a tall man!), when I arrived they gave me a twin room. The housekeeper went there to put them togheter and that was "fine" for one night. Another issue is that the flat TV was too small and many channels weren´t working. The hotel is not located at the main avenue so it resembles a private condominium which makes it a hard place to stay and try to get around (even for a snack during the afternoon, after arriving from your trip).

This hotel is outside of Rio in a community of luxury condos owned or rented by families. It's very safe, quiet, clean, and lovely, but if you want the craziness of the city, this place is not for you. If you want a quiet, lovely, relaxing time--and the chance to spot monkeys on your short walk to the ferry to the beach (really close), stay here. The monkeys were a nice surprise! They are on the short nature walk en route to the ferry. There is a really nice health club and lazy river pool at this hotel, the rooms were very clean and spacious, and the breakfast was quite good! The hotel restaurant looks like a cafeteria, so you might not like the ambiance. Views from balcony on 8th floor were awesome: lagoons to the left and right, and luxury housing and pools all around, mountains everywhere. A fancy mall and plenty of restaurants are within a 10 minute walk. The buses are clean, safe, plentiful, and you can pick them up right outside the hotel complex on the main road. You do have to take a 5 minute ferry ride across a lagoon to get to the gorgeous beaches, but i thought that was charming! The beaches here are way nicer than in Copacabana bc the water seems bluer. I felt kind of like i was in a Key Biscayne or Naples, Fla, in that it was really a place for locals to vacation or rich residents to live. And the guests were all lovely, too. The hotel staff could be more cheerful; the women at the front desk looked miserable, but the guys knew how to smile and be pleasant. And the price during Carnaval week was a BARGAIN!!! Around $200 U.S. a night. I would definitely come back.

Room Tip: Pick a room up high so you can see both lagoons and mountain views.

Best of the so called "apart-hotels" in Barra _ I probably don't but it feels like I know them all. Big rooms, nice views, nice breakfast...

The hotel is right in the middle of private condos. Very safe, very exclusive.
It is not very close to the beach. If you are looking for a beach hotel, this is not the one.
It is clean, quite and well located in the Barra region.

Stayed at this hotel as it was only 10 minutes from the exhibition centre by taxi, this proved to be a very good choice as it was taking anything up to 1 hour 50 for people travelling in from Copacabana area of Rio to the exhibition centre.

For the hotel.
It is clean, comfortable, staff helpful, good size bedrooms, good shower, good breakfast, location to business area, taxi rank on road outside hotel.

Against Hotel.
If you are on holiday you are quite a distance from the true flavour of Rio. Copacabana, Sugar Loaf, Christ Redeemed, Ipanema and Leblon are the other side of Rio.
