“Absolutely loved it!”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

Nice atmosphere, modern good looking crowd, excellent music, excellent cocktails, great food and very good service.
What's not to like? They recently received an award for best drinks menu and their food options in "green, orange and red bowls" are all very interesting and well prepared. Go for the 3 combo.

“Great bar, and unexpectedly great food”
Reviewed August 7, 2012

Becauseof the name bar, we were not sure whether they would alslo offer food. However their menu is extensive and excellent.

You have a choice of differently priced "bowls", at 19 BRL, 21 BRL and 23 BRL depending on the color. Each color has a total of 8-10 different dishes to choose from, or alternatively, you can choose 1 dish from each color and have all 3 colors for 53 BRL.

The cheapest category has mainly starters / salads. The Qinoa salad with squid that I had was really excellent.

The intermediary color has several meat and risotto dishes. The marrocan couscous that I had was very good, and we were told the mushroom risotto is also a favourite in that category.

The most expensive color has some seafood and meat options. I had the thai beef curry with peanuts and was pleasantly surprised that it well prepared.

They also have a nice collection of deserts. I had the hot brownie with ice cream and spicy orange sauce and it was the best brownie/fondant type of desert I had in a long time.

Overall it is obvious that whoever is in the kitchen know what they are doing. The originality, execution and presentation were all very convincing. We were told that the same owner also has a restaurant (called Doiz) and a hotel (called Ostel) in the same area.

The atmosphere was a bar atmosphere in a grand hotel style as you would expect from those in Tokyo or New York. The lightning could have been a bit brighter but other than that the place has flair.

Meza bar was a discovery. While I don't drink alkohol, this is a great dining option for those in Botago (other good options such as A Mineira and Verano are self-service and do not have the same atmosphere).

“A nice restaurant/bar out of the Ipanema-Leblon area”
Reviewed May 30, 2012

If you're looking for a place off Ipanema/Leblon, this is a good choice. Located in Botafogo, Meza Bar has a very interesting contemporary menu and good drinks. I would rather going there for dinner with friends than a night out, as I found the drinks to be a little bit pricey (but good) and also due to the structure of the place, which is more restaurant-like (and not bar-like). If you're looking for a night out with drinks, I would recommend checking out Doiz, which is located on the same street, belongs to the same owner and has a very interesting bar/club ambience.

“Our favorite bar in the world”
Reviewed May 29, 2012

Meza Bar is a place to have amazing drinks, eat very quality food, listen to good music and have a first class service! Two tips: ask for a caju's caipirinha and a "carne assada" sandwich! It's my favorite bar in the whole world!

“Tasty food and good drinks in a creative setting”
Reviewed March 16, 2012

Visited Meza Bar with a friend on a Wednesday night. Ordered some of the "potinhos" including a tuna tartar which was great but lacked a bit of acidity, a bowl of picadinho and a spicy chicken with mashed potatoes which was the best. Service was friendly but took a long time to get my capirinha, and then had to wait about 20 minutes in order for them to find change for a BRL100 bill ... Other than that, cute place with cool decoration (love the lightbulbs) and a great location for some tasty food and drinks in Botafogo. The area is also becoming more popular which is great as an alternative to Leblon/Ipanema.
