Bamboo Rio Hostel

located at Copacabana, less than 10 mins to the beach.
but in a small street next to the main street, feel a bit unsafe whenever we walked back to the hostel, so far is ok as we did pay attention.
Staff is ok.. but not very helpful and welcome as we expected or comparing with those hostel in Argentina. and it is much expensive than in Argentina's hostels too, maybe it;s the same for all in Rio de Janeiro.
There's a kitten kept by the staff , she's cute and made fun to us.
nice facility, nice hostel, nice room and shower (but never changed towels, we stayed 5 nights in private room). would be better if more cheerful and helpful staff.

We stayed in a double room ( 1 bunkbed) i'm 5ft 7" (172cm) but my friend is about 5ft 3" & although th room had a fan & AC ( only to be used from 10pm-10am) the plug & switch were so high she couldnt reach them at all &needed to get me in or use a chair ( the room has no chairs or stools so you have to go & get one) The plug also sparked when you plugged it in or took it out!!!
The women who did the breakfast ( that let a lot to be desired) was so grumpy i never once saw her smile in the week we stayed there!
only1 pc is available but they do limit time on it to 15mins which is good if you are waiting to use it.
Location is ok, in a quiet road 8-10 mins from the beach.

A nice overall place but not for everyone. I wouldn't recommend it if you don't want to party or hate noise. We had fun, but the guests tended to be quite young (average age was 19-23 I'd say) and there were people staying up drinking well past midnight and talking loud everynight. But if that's your thing, you should have fun...the drinks were reasonably priced too.

The staff was mixed, with some nice and helpful and others only talking to fellow staff and not being friendly to others. The location isn't great and walking back to the hostel at night isn't so safe. We heard stories of 2 or 3 different guests getting mugged while we were there. That is a problem in much of Rio, but the fact that the hostel is on a small, not busy street makes it moreso. There was always a lineup for the computers too, and the TV room is pretty small. The breakfast was pretty good.

There's a bar, and a small swimming pool and it's next Copacabana's beach. Quiet street. The bathrooms are clean. Internet for free, wireless or not. :)

There are rooms just for girls and mixed rooms. Also, double rooms.
Very nice staff, they are all my friends now.

Everytime I go to Rio I stay at this hostel.

We stayed twice at Hostel Bamboo and we really enjoied our stay.
Hostel is located 5 minute walking from Copacabana beach near the tunnel for Ipanema.
Bus stops are near the property and the underground is close as well.
We booked a private room and it was clean, new, with tv and air conditioned.
The second time we went there the air conditioned was limited, only after 6 pm, this was due to guests who left the A/C on, even when they were outside!
Common spaces were good but the pool's water was really dirty, but this was not a problem in my opinion, in Rio there are miles of beach for a refreshing pause!!
No security problem in the narrow street where Bamboo is located, someone of the staff is always there to control.
Rio de Janeiro is an amazing city and if we come back one day we will stay at Bamboo Hostel again.
