My boyfriend and I stayed at the chill hostel a couple of weeks ago. We really enjoyed our stay and wish that we could have stayed longer. Luiz is a great host and makes you feel really welcome. The location is safe. It is up a big hill but if you don't want to walk you can get a lift up on the back of a motorbike for the bargain price of 2 reals.

The fact that the hostel was in a favela was okay, it was a very safe neighborhood. And we didnt mind the walk up the hill, we tried to enjoy our daily expercise. So the location was just fine, it was only the hostel that was very BAD.

No house monkies, no fruits in the garden, and no welcome drink as was promised in the description online about the hostel. They also decribed the guys as fun and that they would show you around the favela, and that they had boat tours and so on, a lot of activities. We were suppost to stay 12 nights, but got out of there as soon as we found another place. During the 5 nights we were there there were no activities and they didnt show us anything. The guy who worked/lived there only slept and picked his belly button all day.

The beds were very uncomfterable, and although there were only 5 other guests staying in that big house there was noise althrough the nights. People smacking doors 3 in the morning, and talking loud outside of our window. Before coming to Rio we slept in a dorm with 24 people in London, and it was more quiet than our PRIVATE ROOM in this hostel. I could not sleep there. I woke up at least 10 times every night.

And i havent even described the worst part yet!!!!!!!!!
It was the dirtiest place i have ever been, and we've stayed in hostels throughout the world. There was no cleaning of the room during the 5 nights we spent there. But what was horrific was the BATHROOMS. Always wet and dirty floors (no rug on the floor), and the TOILETS LACKED TOILET PAPER, TOWELS, AND SOAP TO WASH YOUR HANDS. Because you stay in a favela is no excuse for being so dirty.

Worst place ever! Even though it was rather cheap it was not price worthy!
A private room in this hostel for 2 people is 50 real. And when we moved to Arpoador (2 blocks from Copacabana beach and 6 blocks from Ipanema beach) we paid 75 real, and we got our own luxary apartment!!! So please, add those 25 reals extra and you get a much better location and a 5 star accomodation instead.

Extremely cheap hostel in a favela in Leme, Rio. Close to Copacabana. Owners are really friendly and helpful and the hotel is really chilled; however is dirty. Based on other backpackers in Rio it seemed that this was cleaner than the others - Yellow Mellow and Costinho.
