Description: The culinary tradition of the Fasano family finds a home in Rio de Janeiro at Fasano Al Mare, harmonizing perfectly with the marvelous city. Lead by restaurateur Rogério Fasano, the kitchen is run by chef Paolo Lavezzini, who joined the Fasano team from the Michelin three-star Enoteca Pinchiorri in Florence. The refined menu features the diverse aspects of Mediterranean cuisine, with a special focus on seafood. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily in the main dining area as well as the inviting terrace. Designed by Philippe Starck to offer beautiful views of the sidewalks of Ipanema, the restaurant also has a private dining area, concealed by white linen curtains, a Starck signature. Scandinavian tables are arranged under a splendid Murano chandelier.

When I first stayed in Rio, I choose a Hotel in Ipanema. looking for a nice and lively restaurant. I spot Fasano al Mare. And I realy enjoyed. You can sit at the bar or order a table. Both go well no matter if you are on your own or with someone. The food is a mixture of italian, international with a brazilian touch. A large selection of wines, ranging from the usual french to the outstanding portuguese or even chilean ones. The space is sober but very trendy; If you are not in the mood for a a place where people are up to date when it comes to fashion, design and where you can see some local and non local establishment, you will be better off if you avoid the place; Anyway, always interesting to get the pulse of the city vibes and its diffrent tribes. Not to be missed. Very expensive

Just had dinner here last week. Party of four for a 9pm reservation.

There was a screaming baby in the restaurant at 9pm. After several "fly-bys" from the staff with no one asking if we would care for a cocktail, one of the staff came by to ask if we were ready to order dinner, even though we had not received menus yet. This was about 15minutes after our seating. Once we finally were able to order three cocktails, they sent four. After sending the one back, two of the three remaining were actually wrong. They did remedy that quickly. Then we ordered dinner. I found the quality to be far less anticipated. After hearing so much about this hotel and its restaurant, I found it very disappointing. In fairness, I did feel that most of the staff(not all) were friendly, just not very well trained. However a couple were not only not friendly, but they were obviously fixated on the fact that they worked at the Fasano, and less concerned about those of us just passing through....or as I like to call it...paying their salaries.

The prices were a little high, not for what I am willing to pay for dinner, but high for the quality of food and especially high for the level of service. Hopefully other brands that also get it when it comes to design can provide a little competition to elevate service and quality as the Olympics approach.

I am rating as a three, which is average. Unfortunately, this hotel and its restaurant and bar are billed as anything but average. Again, rather disappointing.

From the minute we arrived, the doorman led us to the restaurant as if we were vip guests! To the minute we entered the restaurant we felt we stepped into a real fine dining restaurant. Staff were friendly and helpful at all times. The service and food was excellent- we actually ate there twice and would highly recommend for the food, service and ambience! Well done to them!

Yes this restaurant is expensive but it was good value as the food and service were great and we were left to enjoy our meal in our own time. Oh and whilst sat there who should arrive and sit eating at the bar, Owen Wilson and Stephen Dorff, fortunately they left us alone... ;-)
