We visited Palaphita Kitch with a group of friends. It pops up on various "best bars with a view" lists on the web, and with it's position right on the lake shore I can see why. However, you get the best views at sunset and in June, in the middle of the southern hemisphere winter, the sun sets at around 5.30pm which is unfortunately before the bar opens. So it was dark when we visited, but the atmosphere around the lake is really relaxed and it's a nice place to chill for a couple of hours.
The cocktails were not rated particularly highly - fruit caipirinhas involved chunks of fruit way too big to really add much flavour to the drink! There's a small beer selection, with discounted pricing if you order multiple bottles, so most of us drank beer rather than cocktails.
Food was good and portions large. The sandwiches went down well, as did a sausage dish served with thin cracker breads that reminded me of poppadoms and mango chutney. As other reviews have noted, service can be somewhat lacking but the staff are always around for you to flag them down.
If you are in Rio in the summer months (or just any month where sunset is later than 6pm!) I'm sure the view out over the lake would be worth stopping by for. In the middle of winter it's still a nice spot, but perhaps don't go miles out of your way for it.
