Azul Marinho restaurant is part of the Arpoador Inn Hotel and is located directly on the Ipanema Beach. You can opt for outdoor seating with covered tables on the pedestrianised sidewalk just yards away from the beach, or inside and air-conditioned just a few more yards away. There is no traffic. Either way, it has great views of the full stretch of Ipanema Beach and is ideal for people watching going by. We made a reservation for lunch, specifying an inside table next to the window.
We started with Caipirinhas. One had a Casquinha de siri (crabmeat served in a shell - R$19 = US$10) as starter, followed by Camaroes do Rio (4 jumbo shrimps - R$110 = US$55 - a touch pricey but excellent quality) which came with banana rice and fries not really sufficient for 2 to share, but one of us wasn't too hungry and just wanted a nibble. The quality of the food and presentation were very good.
Together witha good bottle of Sanat Helena Chilean Reserva Cabernet Sauvtgnon red wine (good value for this location at R$69 = US$35 and sparkling waters the meal came to R$269 = US$135 including 10% service charge.
The service was utterly professional and charming.
