We stayed at the Rio Intercontinetal for two days, but the restaurant was expensive so we ate at Gula Gula at the 'fashion mall' near the hotel. Although it wasn't cheap, it was reasonanble as Rio seems to be a very expensive city. We had either fish of the day and filet mignon from their grill menu. That comes with a choice of sauces and two from a list of possible side orders including french fries, jacket and rosti potatoes, caesar slald, green salad, steamed vegetables. The fish was very simply floured and fried and cost 40 reas (about£16). The steaks were delicious, quite big and beautifully cookes as we had asked. they were 45 reas (about £18). beer was 5.80 reas (about £2.30) and a half bottle of very nice white wine was 18 reas(about £7.20). They had english menus and the staff were really nice.
