“Tasty, but just a bad deal”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

The food is pretty good but vastly overpriced. Portion sizes are way off: a meal advertised (and priced) for two people was more appropriate for one. I left feeling ripped off and hungry! Skip it.

“OMG”
Reviewed April 30, 2012 via mobile

Very strange situation!
Is this really a restaurant?
the house is an old one in a street where there are, mainly, car's repairment.during weekends desert describes the street better but this one complains after leaving the place.a man was sitting by the front door and had difficult to understand my simple question 'is it opened!' I am brazilian and portuguese is well spoken.we entered the place and found out an interesting thing:there were leaves all over the floor.exotic but a little too much!the food is OK,nothing more than this.the service is,to say the least,by amateurs.I was ashemed to have friends with me

“Spicy afro-brazilian delicious food!”
Reviewed August 18, 2011

One of the best references of the typical cuisine from Bahia State. The house which hosts the restaurant is delicately decorated with themes of religious syncretism of the black community from this region, which makes the visit to this restaurant, besides a deligthful meal a great cultural experience. The service is average, but it is highly compensated by the excellent quality of food. Beware, because almost everything is very spicy!

“Excellent Afro-Brazilian food - best I ever had!”
Reviewed January 7, 2010

Most recent visit: October 2009
Summary: Excellent Afro-Brazilian food, excellent experience!
I visited this restaurant tucked away in Botafogo (94 Rua Arnaldo Quintela) out of curiosity (seeing as I am of Yoruba heritage i.e. the West African tribe) and I have to say it was an unforgettable experience. The decor is unique with quite a few wooden carvings.
My first time there, I had the signature Yoruba drink - a mix of ginger and cachaca (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED). This was quickly followed by the beijus com ciri catado with chilly pepper sauce (spicy, living up to the Yoruba taste/preference for spices) for starters and the fish moqueca (served with rice, vatapa and cassava flour/farofa) for the main course. Excellent, simply excellent. Plus the proprietress Naede is also very friendly.
Other experiences at this establishment include finding out that a childhood favorite abara (moi-moi in Yoruba) was served here as well as akaraje (akara in Yoruba) and banana terra frita (dodo in Yoruba). Excellent, simply excellent.
All I wish is that it was a wee bit cheaper.
Would I return? YES.
