Beware if you are arriving here due to its listing in Lonely Planet - which describes it as a churrascaria - it is not - well not in the traditional sense, this is an À la carte only restaurant.
Also mains range from R$45(for chicken) but are mainly in the R$80s and R$90s for steaks.
It seemed quite a nice place at first, once we had managed to dispell the churrascaria myth. Quite ornate, but with one oddity - several flatscreen televisions hanging around the room, displaying a local TV station on the night we were in - a little strange for the location, one would have thought they may have played scenery from Rio or maybe even excerpts from the show in the adjoining theatre..
We placed our order with an older, seemingly more senior waiter who spoke perfect English and agreed to the cover - a number of different breads, olives and some pate.
The order was for the tenderloin(fillet) medallions for 2 - and it seemed to take an absolute age to arrive. The reason: the steak turned up well done - not medium-well as ordered and repeated by our waiter. This may not seem like much at first, but the first bite of steak I had was pure charcoal!
My partner and I tried the pepper sauce, fries and onion rings and they were all really good, just the steaks were inedible. When we asked a waiter whether this was correctly done for medium-well, he brought over our original waiter and we asked him...immediately he started clearing the plates from our table and muttered something under his breath which distinctly sounded like "oh! sh1t!".....
The table was completely cleared, new plates and cutlery were given out and eventually our replacement steaks turned up. They were done correctly, but were a different cut of meat and about half the size. We also got about half the amount of fries and pepper sauce that went back, but curiously about twice the amount of onion rings.
For the rest of our time, we were completely ignored by the staff, we were not even asked if the meal was okay this time. Decided not to have desert, coffee and more drinks as planned and were eventually able to ask for the bill, all dealt with by a member of staff we had not seen on the floor previously.
No apology offered, nothing off the bill (even the cheek to include the full service charge), not even an offer of a coffee on the house.
As we walked out, our original waiter was hanging about in the doorway and completely blanked us as we walked out.
We had such high hopes for this place, especially when we realised it was a full price, full service establishment, yet, we left hungry, angry and feeling extremely ripped off...
This may well have been a different review had they just dealt with the mistake rather than make us feel that we were in the wrong. People make mistakes, that we get - just deal with it correctly!
