“A Great Business Lunch Alternative in Barra - A la carte style”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2011

Royal Grill is an excellent alternative for a business lunch or with your significant other.

I prefer the "a la carte" style of Royal Grill eating to the buffet style of a typical Brasilian Churrascaria.

Royal Grill does not try to do every single thing; they focus on a great meat/grill experience, and with a couple of other highlights.

The `"papunha" (heart of palm) on the grill freshly cooked is truly sensational, as is the cooked-at-the-table "arroz maluca". You do also notice the difference in quality between Argentinian and Brasil beef. Service was excellent, and decor very clean and elegant.

Still, not much change from R$150 per head for a simple entree(linguica) and main course(T-Bone), papunha, arroz maluca, a couple of beers and a glass of red wine.

it is not a daily experience at this price. When you convert R$150 into US$ or Euro, and think what you could get with this type of money, it makes you want to save your money on a return airfare vacation to Europe/USA and do all your fine dining over seas for 1 month of the year. As mentioned previously on other reviews, for R$150 x 2 people, I can buy the meat and vegetables and hire a chef for 2-3 hours to cook this at home.

“Well known for the delicious grilled hearts of palm, but overpriced.”

Well known for the delicious grilled hearts of palm, this restaurant is interesting, though not a must. Good service and good food, but for that price you have better options.

“Great meat - good service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2011

I have been to Royal Grill in the Casa Shopping shopping mall in Barra da Tijuca so many times, I think it's the best meat restaurant in Barra. It's completely different from those horrible "meat barns" Porcao and Brasa, where you pay a fixed price and then you're supposed to eat 'til you drop.
No, this is a classy, elegant, good-serviced normal restaurant, serving really good picanha. And try the palmito, it's fabulous.

Since many cariocas still expect restaurant to be like the above mentioned "meat barns" they don't really appreciate this Europe-style restaurant, where you order your dinner and that's it.

Avoid desserts though. But that's not only Royal Grill: in 18 months of eating out in Rio and Barra I never had a decent dessert. Not even at Sudbracks.

“The Best Without A Doubt Steak In Rio”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2008

A local friend of mine introduced me to this undiscovered gem is located in a furniture shopping centre in Barra, around 20 mins from Copa. Having been to numerous steak restaurants in both Rio and Buenos Aires İ can wıthout a shadow of a doubt say that this was the best. They serve Argentinean beef in a Brazilian style (wonderful wonderful Picanha) and boast wonderful side dishes. DO NOT expect spectacular environs BUT DO expect the best steak.... possibly on the planet. Dont believe me huh? Go and check it out for yourself.
